Whats the best brake upgrade for a mk2 1.2 carb nova? Would it be best to put greenstuff pads and disks on it or 2l 16v brakes etc? What would i need 2 get for the second one and how hard is it to do? thanks :thumb:

2ltr brakes bolt straight on and are fairly cheap, even with standard discs and pads will be more than enough

Dont go near greenstuff, i wouldnt touch your cock with them!! lol

As said, ATE 2.0 callipers and 256mm discs are more than enough, especially on a 1.2.

many, many reports of them crumbling.

If Vauxhall thought that these brakes could rein in a 150bhp astra/cav im sure their be alright will a 55bhp nova, mine were... for a bit

The cheaper alternative is press the brake pedal harder ;)

I'm using Ferrodo DS2500s on GTE calipers with drilled and grooved discs and Racing Blue brake fluid. More than enough for my 1300 track car IMO. A good set of Mintex or Ferrodo pads will make a difference to braking performance and take a good pounding from those who like throw down the anchor.

I haven't found squeling a problem with mine but if you get grooved you can quite often hear a snicking noise (can't think of any other word to describe it) as the grooves pass the pad. You only tend to notice it when travelling at around 30mph so the key is to keep driving fast and no one will notice :thumb: lol

LOL, says it all really, if you can cook a set of pads on a backroad, shows how they'd perform on track. Mine virtually vapourised, and i had about 2 laps of decent brakes between them being too cold and then catching fire LOL

On the GTE I have delco calipers (bought new before I was a proper regular on here), red dot fast road pads and red dot 5 grooved discs (got a set for ?25)

I'd imagine seeing as I haven't really tried them yet that I'll probably replace them within six months of driving it with tried and tested 16v kit.

imho unless the discs have the "drilling" cast in then they are a total waste of time and money.

Grooved discs are good for skimming crap off the pads/getting rid of water.
i use M1144's on my vx every day, they needed cunning bedding in as they were a bit noisy at first but thats gone away now ive abused them hard lol.

DS2500's are ace too but ive never had them on one of my cars..... although might try them.

for mintex pads try a company called questmead as i got my full car set for ?95ish inc post etc and no one else could match that.

Micknova, please check the date on threads before posting. Bringing this thread up again is a little pointless now.
