He could probably make it last a day.
Could do it yourself much quicker tho.

I dont think thats to bad tbh, its a **** job removing all the seam sealer & getting it all cleaned up, when my mate welded up mine (similar to pic) it took a good few nights.
I'd quite happily pay ?150 to get a decent job done.

I guess i underestimated how long it takes remove seam sealer.
The welding itself wont take long, just the prep, as per most jobs.

plus he will shultz (?spelling?) the inner wheel arches as he said the seal might burn when welded.

do people re-paint the whole engine bay after welding the seams or can i get away with brushing on the same colour/ish hamerite paint over the welded parts?

white2lSR

im planning on cleaning it up well, masking it up and using hammerite brush on. its a good strong paint and keeps rust at bay!! dont see the point it painting the whole bay when it isnt a show car or anything!!

Iirc.
Rich's was a mk1?

Yeah mine was a mk1, come to think of it there wasn't any sealer or not much on it anyway, still not the most fun job to do tho !!
I think i'd give it a quick lick of paint with a rattle can, well the bits you can see anyway, strut tops, tops of chassis legs ect ... would look a lot neater imo.

I think you've got a reasonable deal there, but is he going to strengthen the suspension pick up points, engine mount brackets, tie bar mounts/inner wing areas, rack mounting plate?
When you consider that paint and sundries costs near to ?50 for half a litre of two pack, if might be worth using two pack,it might not be a show car, but you'll kick yourself later for not doing it.

i showed him these pics in the post and that was the price he gave me.

If your getting all that welding done for ?150 then you have a bargin. It takes alot longer to do that than most people think.

Yep, looks good for the price.
Get him to take off the lip at the bottom of the drivers side inner wing and plate over the gap, gives a little more room for removing crank pulley, shouldn't cost too much more.

See how much he'll charge if you do all the prep work. Im sure he'll knock some money off if you do all the crappy grinding and attacking all the seam seal.

Can't believe people think thats a high price, i'd say that was very cheap compared to what I paid to get mine done last time.

Paint it up with Zinc Oxide based primer first to protect the fresh weld then carry on as normal paint wise.
