Always go for satin over matt black. I reckon the right car in satin black would be don, the bodywork has to be smooth though with no trim to keep the whole rat look going on. I'm toying with the idea of getting a big German barge to do it to (5 series, Audi 100/200), that or a Granada for the Long Good Friday menace.

I'd do it in satin black. You wont be able to wash matt without a sponge getting ripped & leaving bits in the paint..

Satin is what you want!

Here's an idea you coukd use, I'll be doing my bumpers and skirts in this effect, it may give you an idea since i've never seen it done anywhere else

Example: black bumper, want to give it abit of life, so lets say the car is red. Spray bumper black probaly satin finish, take some red or whatever colour pearl powder u want, or some metal flake. Take a decent 2k lacquer, get your self some 2k matting agent, mix up the lacquer and matt agent add your pearl, and spray.
You end up with a lovely subtle finsh. The pearl will flip, but not near as much as with gloss lacquer, but it looks dead tasty.
I know this probaly sounds crap but it really does look really good.

Some xsara picassio's have a simlar effect on their dash board, its grey base with a subtle matt white pearl, but of course thats on vinyl.

BTW don't use any normal HS or gloss lacquers if you want this effect, has to be matt. The reason i suggest using matting agent is its quite hard to get matt 2k lacquers

Why not go for a Matt colour rather than black.... well overdone now IMO.

Good call, I seen VW mags featuring cars in satin and matt colours (theres been a fair few dub buses in matt NATO green lol). Mk 2 golfs (similar in shape and angles to the Nova) look nice with a satin/matt colour scheme as it puts a lot of emphasis on the lines of the bodywork, something which I reckon would translate well to the shape of the Nova.

Funnily enough I always get my brothers VAG mags passed on to me ;)

Thanks for all the comments guys some good ideas here. But i think im still going to go with just the plan matt or satin. But as some people have said its been done a few times now what about doing it like the 90s hotrods with white or green pinstriping with the black. Or will this be ott.

I make a suggetion, as probaly seen here i am abit mad about pearls, espically subtle ones. No ****ty 90s flip paint, but subtle effect 2 stage pearls.
But i've never in my life seen a pearl white nova. It looks ace on hot rods, i'm not talking about the type of white pearl seen on special edition evos, as its bearly noticable. But if you spray your nova an off white or creamy whie, eg "rover white" and then layer plenty of bright white pearl powder, mixed with a very little silver pearl, and lacquer with that, you'll have a one off nova. In fact acuatlly forget about that, i want to be the first :)

Alternative, use satin black, black pearl in matt lacquer, and you get a satin finish with a bit of mica sparkle, but still not gloss r colour shift. I can give you a guys name for the black pearl, it got not colour shifting mica, just a better then met sparkle .
I'll be giving this idea ago soon on a spray out card to see how it goes, as i've finally tracked down some lacquer 2k matting agent. I think i'll shut up and pearls now and give your head peace.
