I am sure I read somewhere before that the best engine coolant was 100%water?

Is this correct?

yes and no...

its the best for heat capacity, BUT it wond do your pump/engine anygood as coolant contains rust inhibitors and lubricants for the pump.

the water wetter is good, as is that odd stuff from the US that is like water but with all the goodness of coolant. only thing is its not anti freeze... mmm cracked block time,

rainwater is good too.

but you still need the coolant to be a lubractor + rust inhibitor...
