decided to do a work in progress thread.....

the car; phase 1 sr.standard trim, done 56,000 miles and no rust so perfect for a redtop.
engine; thatl be coming out of a 120,000mile cally(high mileage but seems a goodun, doesnt smoke or tap and seems to pull the cally well so should be fine in the nova)

the plans;

engine will stay pretty much standard, exhaust, induction kit, power cap etc. like the clean bay look so will hide wires and move wiper fluid tank and so on. probaly be painted white and have some cosmetic stuff under the bonnet.

interior, the dash has to golol gsi dash and interior to be fitted with digi dash and some funky dials where the heater nobs are, steering wheel and thats pretty much it.

bodywork will stay how it is, respray the bumpers a darker colour and remove the vynal of the side. door locks and intercaitors will be removed but not until the main stuff is out the way. euro light(twin fog) and clear front indercaitors

suspension/chassis, spax rsx coilovers, chris astley motor sport cassis kit, strut brace's front and rear..

there a few small rust spots, scratch's and one dent but for a 17yr old car not to bad methinks. boot and engine bay are very solid just dirty.

bought some hamerite under seal with waxoyl and will paste that on when i cchange the wheels and brakes.

JSeymour

not really an update but....

euro left cluster put on.

spent my time getting the engine out of the cally(a lot harder then i first thought:( ) hopefully it goes in easier but somethings telling me it wontlol....oh well.

at the mo the plans keep changing for the car. splash out and have it just how i want it(priced up comes around the 3k mark. thats scary stuff!)
or keep it simple, engine in decent suspension and a few cosmetic mods(around a grand) hmmm....

heres what the engine came out of.

is there any major differences between this engine and redtops with coilpacks?

craig green
23-02-07, 10:54 AM
That is a coilpack XE. ie no Dizzy.

So longa as you have the g/box mount spacers all sorted etc before you drop it in/lift it in there shouldnt be too much hassle.

make plenty of space for the alt pulley too. Easy to under estimate the clearance needed.

joff-turbo-nova
23-02-07, 11:57 AM
Main differences with the coil pack dizzyless XE vs dizzy XE are :

1 .the castings on the head are slightly different (extra bolt hole for the coil pack - may need to know if you ever change head)

2. the Group N type chips won't work with this engine so if you want a chip upgrade you will need to be very specific on the type of ECU and engine.

3. The cambelt is the later type with an adjustable tensioner.

4. You will find that the end of the exhaust camshaft has a different end and you cannot just fit a dizzy on the end.

All found out from having one of these in my nova - also ensure you get the hall sensor type thing - sits on a metal plate and looks like the pack you get under the coil - new from Vauxhall they are ?100+ !

Cheers

plus the early engines that have the distributor run on the 2.5 motronic system whereas the coil one works off 2.8. and you cannot use the loom from a different class engine!!! i found out the wrong way:thumb:

where can you get spax rsx for ?250?? second hand is it?

afaik spax are selling the fronts(maybe the rears aswel) for ?270, the rears arent a coilover anyway. plus theres always people selling new kits cheap.

ive just paid for some AVO coilovers anyway so wont be getting spax now:D

Well as pvs is in less then a month i had to get my car looking a bit better.

i paid for some AVO's. bought them from a user of the site FASTONE16V but it turned out it was a scam and hes nicked my money(?215):( so you have been warned! stay clear of the scotish **** stain!

anyway i had some ****ty 60- drop springs in the garage spare so ive put them on for now.

also hamerite undersealed the arces, put the brakes on which i painted red and the exhaust(which isnt on correctly as your see from the pics)

the plans are for the next couple of weeks(before pvs) are;

clear side repeaters
put back bumper and exhaust on straight
black plates
re vynal the sides, theres rust coming through the passenger side door plus i want vynal with out the bump strip so revynal is the answer.
novaload.net stickers
yaris rear wiper(unsure about front wipers)
maybe some better front suspension(if founds permit)

also im not sure if i like the lairy wheels, was thinking polished cav slabs. what do you think?
