Im trying to find out what this pipe is for, i'll describe where it is.
Underneath the car on the passengers side, its a small rubber black pipe which runs along the edge of the petrol tank. One end of the pipe comes from the side of the petrol tank on the drivers side, it runs along the tank to the passengers side where it ends. It doesn't go into anything it just stops and hangs down a bit.

Does anyone know what this is ? Im guessing its a vaccum or overflow pipe of some sort.

The reason I ask is coz my car stinks of petrol. I know nova's smell of petrol anyway but on saturday I filled up to the top, then I was booting it for about half an hour. I pulled up and went inside for half an hour, when I came out, there was a little pool of petrol on the floor right below this pipe that I described above. I checked all the fuel lines and pipes and I can't see any leaks, and this area where the little black pipe ends is the only place where it smells of petrol ???

any ideas

it's a vent pipe
i'll bet the petrol smell is coming from the perished pipe from by the altornator to the fuel pump

it was a few months back, so I replaced it with a ne one and that seemed to stop the smell for a few months, now its back but coming from underneath.

Is it possible that petrol is somehow getting down the vent pipe. Like, really full tank, hard cornering and petrol splashing around in the tank, could it have somehow worked its way down the pipe ?

That vent pipe is supposed to fit on the filler pipe, I'm sure its not meant to hang like that! As for leaks check the two rubber/fibre pipes that connect the main fuel lines to the tank. These pipes have a tendendcy for being perished!

Well I'm taking the tank and fuel lines off when I put my 2.0l in in 3 weeks so I'll have to wait till then and hopefully when I replace the tank and lines, it should dolve the problem.

Just hope no one throws a fag near my car in the next 3 weeks or I'm fucked !!!
