Im just wondering how many people on here are tracking Nova this year and also how many people would be interested in a group booking to save some money on entry fees.
Ive got some ideas in mind, but really need an idea of numbers. If anyone has suggestions please let me know. I went to RAF Woodbridge (near Ipswich) with Javelin on saturday and I think this would be a great first venue to go to. I will speak to Colin from Javelin and ask him what price he could do for a group of ten to get a rough idea of cost. The reason for me suggesting this track is because alot of people have not been out in their cars this year and it would be a safe place to start, with not having armco/ tyre walls to hit and plenty of space to safely learn to drive your car. Details from Javelin on the circuit below
http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/images/wb-runway-sm.jpg

Javelin Trackdays have done it once again by securing a deal to use of RAF Woodbridge nr Ipswich for trackdays.

RAF Woodbridge boasts exceptionally smooth tarmac runway and taxiways.

The initial circuit will be in excess of 2 miles.

The venue had previously only been used for straightline Top Speed runs etc. The MOD has worked very hard to open up the decommisioned hangar complex for us. This area is still in prime condition and offers some interesting variations.

We are now spoilt for choice of routes. All offering smooth tarmac, no kerbs and loads of run off in the right places."

Ive spoke to Colin from Javelin Track days and hes offering a discount of 10% off the usual price of ?115 if I can get a group booking of 10 cars. The track day is open pit lane, track time is between 10:00 and 16:30, noise level is 102db and ARDS instruction is a available. As I said before this is a fantastic venue and it would be so good to mix Novas/ vauxhall with other makes and model of cars rather than just a Vauxhall only day.
So if anyone is interested please let me know. If we could get more than 10 cars I would imagine we could get even more discount but at the moment I wanting ten cars.

i would be interested in doing it in the manta, as i no nova :( but i think i'm going to do a couple of sessions at castle coombe around that time, which is slightly cheaper, and can't really afford to do both.

maybe next time when i'm working, and not a student bum lol

I'll be doing a couple in the UK this year as I've had to pull out of the 'big ring' trip this year due to family commitments.

Ipswich is a little far for me considering I live just 10 mins from Donny.

I'll be aiming to get my car rady for the end of March/start of April, so best get my skates on:D

If you're coming up this way let me know and i'll see if I can join up.

Dave.

Elvington is a good laugh, went last year with chris and we managed to break his car in the morning, then took mine out to see what it would do.
I'll be up there as much as I can this year.

Bottlethroddy would you be interested in going to Woodbridge? IMO I think Woodbridge is a better venue than Elvington due to being bigger, a smoother surface, a better layout and Elvington is having problems with noise at the moment.

As Marc says, Woodbridge is a better venue than Elvington, it isnt longer though Marc. Both circuits are a little over 2 miles when laid out.

Elvington is all concrete when as Woodbridge is around 80% tarmac / 20% concrete, but there is only one chicane on the concrete.

Dont get me wrong Elvington is a great venue still, however alot of people complain of excessive tyre wear, I would put that down to driving style though, alot of people see it as a chance to throw the car everywhere due to the huge amounts of run-off, which in turn chews the tyres.

I was surprised at how well my tyres (Toyo 888) looked after saturday, I will be getting another season with them on.

I ran my crx at Top speed competition a couple/few years back when RAF woodbridge was used for just drag.

If you want go matey, you can provisionally book through Javelin's website and this will list who's going. Click on view attendees.

The reason Im saying to provisionally book at the moment is because we need to get the 10 cars to get the 10% discount, otherwise it will be the full price of ?115.

List so far ( just me!!!);

Your car does not need an MOT or insurance to attend a Track day.

Taken from Javelins Website;

Is my car suitable?

Most likely yes. Almost all vehicles are welcome on trackdays just so long as they meet safety and noise emission requirements. As a general rule, you car needs be to MOT standard. Seatbelts, brakes, tyres, indicators and lights all need to have to work.
Some circuits do have special rules, and one of the most common is that special track prepared cars that do not have wings over their wheels won?t be allowed. Check out the event detail box for any restrictions.

Car preperation

Although most cars are built to withstand stresses above those they will ever experience on normal road, they are not built with track work in mind.
There are a few simple things that you can do to help ensure your car will cope with the extra stresses of a day on track and go home in as good condition as when it arrived:

1)Brakes.

Check that your brake disks and pads are in good condition.
Make sure if you need to change the pads that you have time to bed them in well before taking to the track (min 100 miles use).
Many regular trackday enthusiasts upgrade the disks, pads and brake fluid they use which on top of improving track performance, will also make your car safer for the road.

2) Tyres.

The actual part of the car making contact with the track needs to be in very good condition and set at the right pressures.
These will be determined by the make of car and the make of tyre, also the track conditions and your own personal preference. Many people choose to increase the pressure by around 10% and find that tyre wear is less of a problem. Some vehicles find increased grip from lowering the pressure, maybe only on one axle.
The trick is to check the pressures are even and check them when they are at track temperatures.
One thing is for sure though, you should make any adjustments at the track and return the tyres to normal road pressures before you leave so make sure you have a method of blowing up your tyres. Small battery tyre inflators are available from all good motoring shops.
3) Engine

Your engine will spend more time at high revs than ever before, check that all the filters and belts are in good order and pay particular attention to the oil level.
Bring some oil with you, as it is normal for an engine to ?burn? some during a trackday.
Keep an eye on the level during the day keeping it close to or at the max.
Be careful not to overfill though. Upgrading the oil to one that can handle higher temperatures is a good idea.

4) Suspension and steering

Suspension and steering parts will help define how well your car handles, and hence how comfortable you will feel out on the track. Make sure these parts are in good working order and don?t be tempted to take to the track (or road for that matter) with faulty or worn parts.
5) Bodywork

The bodywork should be in good order, as we don?t want wheel covers (remove them for the event), bumpers and wings leaving your car while you are driving!
6) Contents of you car

Make sure that you remove everything from the car that is not firmly fixed down. Pens and soft drinks cans can become lethal projectiles. Make sure you remove everything from the boot of the car too, in some cases this means the spare wheel also, there is always somewhere to keep things at an event, while you are on the track
Remember that Javelin can take no responsibility for belongings during the day.
7) Fuel

This sounds obvious, but it?s very important. You will not be averaging 35mpg while on the track, indeed less than 10mpg can be more realistic once you are a little more experienced. Be sure to have at least half a tank of fuel in you car before each session as if you run out on the track you will waste everyones track time while your car is recovered.
8) Insurance

It is becoming increasingly unlikely that your road going policy is going to cover you for a trackday so make sure you check with your insurance company first. Make sure you mention that these events are non-competitive and no racing or timing is allowed. Javelin can arrange cover for a small additional premium.
If your insurers do not cover you we recommend you take out a separate per event policy to be sure. Javelin also sell personal accident insurance, which we also recommend you take out.
Although trackday accidents are rare, if you decide to take your car on to a track, you must be aware that you are accepting the risk. By taking part you have already agreed to this. You will also be required to sign a further declaration at each event. This is usual on any trackday. The Landowner, Javelin or any other person or company cannot be held responsible, even if an accident is not your fault, so make sure you are insured.
