good for a 1.4 id say...mine standard and keeps up with saxo vtr's/pug 106 gti's and not that much slower then gsi's/gte's when you think about insurance difference.

agree with above,i have a 1.4 sr ,mostly standard apart from 4 branch ,and will stick with vtr's all day long.

yeah agreed, for an old skool (carb) engine, they seem to have a fair amount of poke :D

79bhp is nowt to be sniffed at in a 1.4 these days :D

I worship the 1.4 :)

i think its the weight of it and the power along with the gains you can get, old school small block is the only way to go:cool:

There brill i have driven bigger engined cars but when i first picked up my 1400 sr it was brill. And they respond really well to a good set of twin carbs, lairy cam etc etc, performance wise in standard trim there not bad for a car of there age. But when tuned there really quick mine in standard road trim (tuned 1400) was hitting 16.5's at the santa pod raceway on a crap slippy track. But you will probally get bored eventually and get a bigger engine, because at the end of the day they are not extremely fast, and your gonna wanna go faster. I totally contradictad myself there didnt i:confused:lollollol

i dont think your standard 1.4sr can keep up with a pug 106 gti somehow mate, are you sure you didnt mean a rally as that is the same as a saxo vtr exept the panels, lights, interior and badges

i dont really go around looking for races but the other day at the lights i pushed a pug 1.6 xsi down the rosd(to 60) and when i had my gte witch was faster then my sr, it was faster then gti's all day long so thats why i put it.

well when i had my 1.4 it was on a 1.2 box, with a 1.2 head, i never got hold of a 1.3 inlet, and it had a 1.6 carb, air filter, exhaust, it kept up with my mates 1.4 that was running on injection and had a lightened bottom end and flywheel and my mates GTE that had an exhaust and induction kit, so they definately have potential :D

I had a 1400SR too and it was a right wee rocket.

Kept suprising me all the time.

My Starlet SR was similar if not slower.

i dont know if this is true, and i am not just saying this as i have one!lol

But, i was told the 1300 SR's were just as quick as the 1400's if not faster!

When my brother had his 1300sr he was beating his pal in his 1400sr.

there prob just the same all the numbers are in that max power haynes Manuel i will post them up tomorrow evening from what i remember the older ones seem to be better, if i get chance i'll scan the page. iv got the corsa one too and on paper the nova its just better at everything standard like bhp and 0 to 60 as standard, it makes you wonder why vauxhall changed it in to a corsa the design i mean not the opel thing

i put a 1.4 in mine and the differnce from a 1.2 was amazing they are a great little engine, just put an sri in it now and it is faster but not alot! gona put the old sr into a 5 door with carbs!!!

Something I'm looking to do with my 5 door. The SR engines are surprising for an engine of such an old design, I think it being in such a light car (compared to the weight of todays 'superminis'). I've heard from various unreliable sources that the 1.3 is a better engine, I think this should be put down to pub chat and the fact that people are trying to defend the memories of their 1.3s! On paper the 1.4 is a slightly more powerful lump, it just comes down to how healthy each engine is (taking into account the age and how abused its been).

1.3sr and 1.4sr are quite evenly matched. 1.4 does had a tad more power and i think torque too.

someone needs to sort out a race between the nova loaders 1300 vs 1400 lol a dead heat i say.. suppose it depends what you know best at the end of the day.

it all depends on what the standard power is on each individual engine, as they are old engines now, some have lost a great deal of power, my standard 14sr has beaten a few gtes and never lost against any SRs, whereas ive seen GTEs to be slow as ****.
