Hi,

Just came back to NL, raced a Nova in 2005 (oval racing/bangers) and I used to come here for advice.

Now, I have my road car :thumb: I'm only 16 (17 in August), so I've got plenty time to play.. It's only a 1.2 Mk2 (J Reg) 3dr hatch, I want to make it look nice, but not chavvy..

I've got GSi bumpers, skirts and spoiler for it, and I've been told by a mate to colour code the bumpers/skirts, but I don't want to... I like them grey... The only problem is, the rear one has faded and the front one has flaked, so I need to respray them grey...

(The car is currently Casablanca White by the way)

So my first question is - If I spray the bumpers/skirts grey, what colour grey do you lot suggest? Long live the nova said he used Hurricane grey, is that what others use? I'm just getting advice...

Also, what is the nicest white you guys think? I think it's being resprayed, as theres a couple of little bits here and there, so I would like to know what white looks best with grey bumpers/skirts... Plus, if I respray the car, how do I go about spraying the grille?

Cheers for any advice, I know it's a long post, but I've got time on my hands lol...

Ste-V.

BMW alpinewhite 2 is a nice white, plus cheaper to touch up than a colour which you have had to get mixed up! I'd use Rover Hurricane grey too, its the grey thats on the bottoms of the doors of old H plate Rover 214s. There are plenty of guides on how to prepare and spray bumpers on here if you search forum it up mate.

Well, what's the closest grey/black to the original GSi bumper/skirt colour? I think at the moment im going to go for hurricane grey, but I cant help thinking its going to look too grey, and not black enough?

Are the bumpers grained (that knobbly texture)? You could paint them Hurricane grey, keeping the texture and just bumper black it if you are not happy with it?

Yeah they're textured as far as I know...

I think it's going to be hurricane grey isn't it...

As for the white, I don't know, should I leave it Casablanca White?

If you think Casablanca white is ok, then go for it. Any other white won't require a log book change, so if Casablanca is hard to get in rattle cans, it might make sense to use a new white that will be in production for some time. This will help if it ever needs touching up or new parts spraying the same colour.

Oh right yoza.. I thought Casablanca was a Vauxhall colour, its in the Opel colour book thing at my local paint shop? Anyways, I'm keeping it Casablanca white, it's not a bad colour, keeps it original then...

As for the bumpers/skirts, I think I'm going to try satin black on one of the skirts and see how it looks... The hurricane grey looks nice, but I want it darker than that... Should satin black be ok?

Cheers for all the help.

Ok mate..

So do you think I should go for satin black then? Or do you suggest something else? And should I lacquer them?

i am doing the same thing, and opted for a grey, the one i got is very close to the original grey plastic

i have painted my side skirts, wheels, filler cap, grab handle in this colour and is a good match to the original plastic colour.

my bumpers will be done the same when my gsi front and rears arrive, im also doing my mirror carcas's this colour and the caps white.

take a look in my progress thread theres a pic of the paint i used in there and you may be able to see the code on the tin:thumb:
