16XE into a 1.2 carb mk1 shell, will the mounts on the car need adapting/changing at all?

Nope.
Just use the std 1.2 mounts.

Bolt straight in.

What might need changing is the alternator belt/pulley system.

If you use std engine mount rubbers the alternator pulley will rub the chassis leg when the engine moves about.
