Bring it round before it's due, I'll show you what to check, but it may still fail, mot testers are a funny breed!

Funny breed my ****, its the crap you buggers bring in that you call cars.

Dont waste your time worrying about checking it over, your opinion is going to be totally different to that of the bloke whos testing it.

its not as easy as it use to be now its live. just give it a check of the ovuious (sp) things and hope the MOTer got the ride of his missis the night before!!

Ok Saloony, I'm prepared to give you that mot testers do see a lot of crap, but in my experience a well maintained car SHOULD pass the mot without any issues. However, not all mot testers carry out the checks as per the rules/guidelines, they use discretion/opinions about what is safe/not safe and more recently about what to advise on.
Example: Standard Nove GTE rebuilt recently passed the mot test with the following advise attatched, Non standard brake pipes fitted. the car has Goodridge hoses throughout. When I enquired about this, pointing out that copper brake pipes are also non standard he said " It's my opinion that counts, so advise stays", i have no real problem with the advise note, but I do object to opinions on a test that should be black and white.
This attitude from testers now makes mot checks prior to the test, all but redundant, your'e as well getting a failure then you know what needs to be done, rather than trying to second guess a small brained mot tester wearing a hi-vis jacket on a power trip!

Argument expected

Argument expectedSeen that before, some dick advised a bloke on having non standard wheels:eek: The testers that give problems are them that are over 38 and been doing it more than 10years, they think they know best and no matter how many refreshers courses they have they still stick to old ways. I have this problem at work, boss (tester as well) 59 and a 72 hire helplol are always having heated discussions lets say which end up with me getting the book out and proving them wrong.

Seen 2 failure sheets for cars, one failed on it being a metro and the other, this is no bull... cos the bloke is a cock.lol Showed them when i done my course.

Well bugger me!, you didn't argue.
I've been ejected from the garage that I used to use in Surrey, for arguing with the tester, he failed the car on emissions, it was a N/A Cossie in a space framed Mk2 Escort, I argued that it was a kit car and didn't come under the current rules at the time, the manager threw me out as I was shouting at the tester and he was shouting at me, didn't throw the tester out though lol.

Oh by the way, forgot to mention, the tester was my dad, over 50 at the time, confirms your theory

Wasn't really looking for an argument argument!, just looking to get a bit of a debate going on the merits of SOME mot testers and their practices.

No offence meant...

but the only trouble is the police have a diffrent set of rules to an mot station i wanted to pit my rear lights in the bumper the mot station said itll be ok but the police say not incase you have a trailor

draper
09-02-07, 08:04 PM

novawez

if there rules dont match up they can same as you can get done for having your tax disk too high wrong side rear lights too dark no reverse lights which the mot man passes u for

draper

i cant see how they can do you if it got an MOT in that state - all they could do is give you a rectification notice, you simply take it to the MOT station, they stamp it you post it off

no i got done on the m1 coalville junction for haveing the tax disc in the middle if window just on top of the dash

tom reid

There always has been a lot of confusion on this, mot testers work to one set of rules/guidelines, the filth use "construction and use regulations" to catch out modders/chavs/etc.
