keep with the 1.3 sr idea--keep scanning ebay, they pop up all the time (theres a few on at the mo) just completely forget the 1.2, and never mention it again...

wot i save on insurane i can spend on a good 1.2 so i am told.....
did ne have a five speed box or rev gauge (not to bothered about rev counter) just the box as i had a escort with a 4 speed and it was good until u wanted 5 and there wasnt 1... lol

A modded 1.2 will be more expensive to insure than a std 1.3SR.

SPi's had a 5 speed box, the rest were 4 speed with a 5 speed option on some models I think.

Nope, not all SPi's was 5speed, my old 1.2i was 4 speed, and im sure LLTN's was 4speed iirc

so just wait and look for a 1.3 sr. my mate matt1chelski that i have known for a long time has 1 and since i had ago and i have no car because of the accident i had a go in that and now i want one.
but i could be waiting along time for a good one. but i bet it will be worth it.

Speaking from a 1.2 owners perspective, I would have waited and bought a SR (but than I only bought the 1.2 a a means of insuring my 730i at 19). So many SRs have been rotted, raped and crashed that you do have to work to find a good one. 1.2s can be had for beer money and there are so many more about (obviously these arent all minters but the sheer volume increases the likelyhood of finding a good one). My 1.2 carb is a 5 speed, and adding a SR clocks with a rev counter is not hard. Might be worth buying a 1.2 if its been SR'd (interior, clocks, trim etc) and its clean and cheap but keep looking for a genuine SR, it wont be much more and already has trick bits, not to mention a more powerful engine + close ratio 'box.

Paul, any nova will feel like a beast compared to your escort. lol. I think you should just have a look about, and see whats about when the insurence finally pay out. I got the sr (as you know) and im glad i got it, lady owner etc, but to find another one similer would take ages. If i were you, just find a decent 1.2, perferabley a 5 speed, and just sort the rest as you go along. A few simple mods, and sort the interior, will be a decent little runner, at least untill you can afford the insurence.

I know the Nova Star Fires have a 5speed box, but no rev gague. They also come with a set of 3 spoke alloys, rear spoiler and a rear wash/wipe.

That sounds like a good idea, and like my matt said i can always find the intior and bumpers and later in life i could mayne put a 1.3sr engine in it.

so are the star fires easy to come by???

Paul.

SR's are quite hard to get hold of in mint condition, the star fire novas, i've only seen one in my life and im 21lol

on the whole 4 speed 5 speed thing, didn't vauxhall f*ck up the boxes so quite a few of the 4 speed spec were actually five speed, but rather than change the gearbox on them all they just put a stop on the gearstick guide where the 5th gear is so you couldn't get it in fith? and everyone just thought these novas were rev happy?? as for the rev counter, wire of the negative coil connector going to a rev counter works..well thats whats done on novas with rev counters, coming from the green wire on the module loom

Same engine, different trim level. The L's are a bit povery spec in comparison to the SRs with their luxurious bucket seats, sporty rev counter, spoiler, vinyl graphics and fancy steel wheels.

i think the best 1.2s are the 2dr hatch luxe+ 1.2i they have 5gears and electrics standard. mine would cruse at 110mph no probs..

id still have it if it never got knicked. worst thing is the paint was still wet when the fekker took it
