Final drive ratios

Is it poss. to:
a. Swap the crown wheel giving a final drive ratio of 3.74:1 from an F13/5CR box with one out of an F10/5 that has the final drive ratio of 4.18:1?
b. If so will the pinion need to be changed and will it swap boxes OK as well?

thats well out ov my league LOL
i once try`d to fit the diff from a 1.0 f104speed into a f15 4 speed once to try to get around the problem ov expensive valver type driveshafts but couldnt get the big huge castle type thingy off the box with a flat bar like your supposed to be able to do

Its MC's fault, he started me off on this final drive train of thought by draggin me half way across the country after a quaife diff. I was all for staying at home with me pipe an slippers...!!:>

3.74:1 can be got from other boxes
have a look in the haynes
also 1.2 vans are even lower so they can pull off with loads of weight in
and swedish postal astra vans are lower still!!!

Bit of confusion here, we want 4.18:1 to lower the ratios. At the moment I can do 125 in 4th and 5th is a bit limp, so we want to bring the whole lot down. We already have 3.74:1 boxes which are useless after 3rd.

oops wrong way round
the van ones give u less speed in each gear
my 1.2 van could only do 100mph max in 4th i was running out of revs!!!!
