im about to buy a car with no mot or tax, its 20miles away, can i use trade plates to bring it home?

the law changed recently regarding trade plates.

Now they only cover you for tax, so legally the car still needs to be MOT'd.

Book it in for an mot? you can drive to and from an mot station

book it for an mot near ur home,technically ur driving to the mot

who owns the trade plates? only the owner and employees are covered, unless the owner or employee are in the car as well...........

a garage were i worked covered anybody with the owners permission

That's slightly dodgy. If I let a customer test drive a car with trade plates, they are only taxed (and insured) if there is a named employee in the car!

well in the garage i worked my gaffer let people use the plates, also ive read the insurance docs (i got a producer on trade plates !!) and anyones covered as long as he says so ??

If your driving the car to a place of repair (ie ur/friends house) then it does not need to be prebooked (as you dont need to prove that you prebooked yourself). in which case it doesnt need to have mot or tax.
