Try cleaning and re-oiling the idle stepper motor.

its a 1.2i so it wont have an adjustable auto choke , its all built into the ecu ,

as ad said remove the idle stepper motor and clean and re oil

sorry to sound thick mate, but is the throttle boby the part that you can accelerate the engine from inside the engine bay? Cheers agian

Its on the front side of the throttle body.
Held by two torx screws, and has a 4wire plug.

I took this part out as you had said, it was same part as above, only difference was the centre bit (top of pic) was extended showing the spring, is this normal or does that mean its cream crackered? Once i had cleaned and re oiled and put it back, the car started and ran (ticked over fine) for about a minute then stalled. Any more ideas please. Thx in advance!

id say thats its had its day then , you could try one from a breakers yard , they will be the same on most 1.2 / 1.4 spi engines so astras/nova/corsa engine are all fine for you

infact the website lists them the same for all these models

Astra SPI 1985-1991
C14NZ
Astra SPI 1992-1997
C14NZ X14NZ
Corsa SPI 1993-2000
C12NZ X12SZ C14NZ
Astra SPI 1985-1991

hey is it an injection? coz if it is it doesnt hav a choke jus a coldstart device

Adam
06-02-07, 12:21 AM
Eh?/\

Its a single point injection and has no choke or coldstart device. Just an idle stepper motor(varying the amount of air able to bypass the throttle valve)

The spring showing on the idle motor is normal, if its just cutting out dead then i'd say its not the motor causing the problem. Does it start straight back up?
Start the engine, and when its idling fine(on its own,no throttle pedal) unplug the wiring to the idle motor.
If it stalls again same as before then you know its not the motor causing it to stall(as the ecu can no longer control the motor)

Started engine, got it ticking over fine, pulled out plug from stepper motor, car still running fine, for longer than before, before eventually cut out. Any more ideas m8 pls?

Does it start straight back up after it cuts out?

mez
06-02-07, 08:26 PM
yes m8 it does, but then wont tick over

When you say you changed the coolant sender?
Did you change the one to the ecu(on the back of the inlet), or the one to the dashboard(top of inlet)?

mez

sorry this is the wife, he's just nipped out, but i said I'd keep my eye on ur advise lol, the part he fitted was one that goes to ecu as far as i know but if there is any difference i'll post in a few mins wen he gets back, (just dint want u to think we were ignoring u) lol

Adam
06-02-07, 08:40 PM
Yeah theres a difference between the two.

mez
06-02-07, 08:42 PM
He's back now m8, the difference i meant was wether the sensor was to the ecu or dash, and i was rite YAY it was to the ECU!

Adam

The sense to the ecu is on the back of the inlet with a 2pin plug.
The one to the dash is a small spade connector on the top of the inlet.

mez

the sensor i changed was to the ecu with a 2pin plug
