What are the signs of a head gasket gone??

When i take the oil cap off there is like a white throffy substance inside does this mean the head gasket has gone??? Its not overheating and not using water so has the gasket gone??? The oil in the sump is also the same colour but more liquidy so help would be appreciated cheers

if the engine is only running for short periods and not getting fully warmed up it might just be condensation, otherwise it's most likely the head gasket gone.

hi ya mate i would also check the header tank (coolant) if the samewhite mayo look is in that, thats a sign of oil and thats bad, thats where the oil in the cylinders has gone through the gasket. Also check when runnin for alil time and engine is warm check for alot of white smoke that means water is being burnt if its blue ish thats more likly oil burn as u sed with the sump drain oil and change filter if the same is happenin. start lookin for parts for ur car. check all levels in a few days to make sure.

if u need any help just ask...

the oil pressure on the dials if you have sr/gte/gsi etc should change as water is mixing with it giving it a different boiling point and pressure
