Hey everyone, I thought it would be interesting for all of us to compare our motors and compare what we have spent on them over the months/years our blood, sweat and tears have been pooring into them. Is your wallet suffering? Was it all worth it? Did you have any plans for your car, did they go out of the window along with your budget?

I brought my XE about 6months ago for ?700 since then i have changed the bumpers, custom cut them, added bonnet vents, a new windscreen, fitted bonnet lifters, fabriced the door cards, treated large areas of rust on praticaly every pannel, flushed the boot, changed the tyres, alternator and soon a new clutch will be fitted (fingers crosse). It is also getting a full respray by myself soon as the cutch is fitted. (All work has been carried out by myself and good mate craig. Over all including materials iv spent an extra ?600. I was hoping to make it more presentable to sell on for a bit of profit. I now think that there is no room for profit so i just want to finish it off and sell it on.

I would ad an image of my car but i dont have any webspace and cant be bothered to set up a free area to attach the img tag to it....I will once the car has been painted but unitll then i wont

Anyone got pictures? When you think about it are you happy with how much you have spent and what else you could have got. Buying the cars one thing and insuring it is another i spose.

It scares me to think about it on my old NDZ 1331 nova, but i had it for 5 years! The turbo one is costing an absolute bomb too, but it will be worth it.

Stanley
03-02-07, 07:41 PM
To me, it was worth every penny.

Cost me ?1000 to insure (wheels, suspension and boot declared) 19y/o, 7points, 1years NCB. registered as a 1400 of course:roll:

lol, yeah guys you dirty pic whores ! Lets get some figures down as well so we can see what you can get for the money, Personaly i have carried all work out myself and my home boy Mr. Glister saving loads of money. But yeah get pics up. I love the Gray one, dont like the clear lights thou. Respect to all the speedlines! i would love a set but my budget isnt stretching to it yet.

STAN THE MAN ! You insure that for ?1000 and your 19 with 7 points + 1 years NCB thats is F-all ! reg as a 1.4 i cant believe how cheap that is. Living in London is a bump for insurance. But at the end of the day, London is the best place in the world !

Been seriously modding since about 1996 !

I dare not add up the reciepts on the current rebuild

Youre quite correct - although not all of us blast down B roads with no consideration. Lots of roads up here are sheerly (speeling ??) awesome roads due to new tramac, and long sweeping curves through the hieghts of the hills and down to the depths of the valleys.

But sometimes we get it wrong - http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j199/stan_the_man87/15112006331.jpg

It takes a lot of skill driving though un kept roads, lots of factors to concider. Although it can be fun, we all still drive novas they are no high qullity performance cars, even with suspension, brake and tyre upgrades its still the same chasis which was originally designed for a cheap hatchback for the vast working class market. The ralley novas have vast upgrades and roll cages are a basic requirment for saftey. Accidents do happen, putting ourselfs in risk is one things, doing it to others is another. We must take this into concideration.

Yeah mint ! that what was aiming for mine, but with std lights. I need to get some GTE skirts and a laguna splitter along with my grey spray job and i think il call it a day.....heres a pic of mine a long few months back, its progressed from here a little. You can see the patchy bits around the door and rear wing on this side. It was a right dog, thinking about it ?700 may of been a bump. im going to try and contact the previous owner and get the photo he has of it before i got my hands on it.

03-02-07, 09:53 PM
I think it've spent about ?120 on top of purchase.
3 Spokes ?60
Tyre ?35
Odds and sods from scrap yard.

Purchase was ?300 for a 1L with 12K on the clock

Do I win something for the most skin flint nova?

It just doesn't need anything doing at the min and upgrades seem pointless as it doen't go anywhere at the min.

EDIT: I've just realised that i've spent far more on one camera body (cheapy one) that a whole car!

03-02-07, 10:43 PM
Wow that?s quite a piece of engineering I would like to be in the position where I have the space/time/money/knowledge to build something so unique but at the end of the day.....I would have just got a TVR. It would be nice to have a project as intense as that one day but only if I didn?t depend on it as my only car. It would just sit in the garage. What drives you to spend so many resources on it? I got my XE to kind of say...look at this crappy old nova leave your new 7k car at the lights you silly chavy ******* with your lexus lights. A project like you?re to me would be about engineering possibilities overcoming problems and creating something innovative. As a design student I would like to be put in that position but at what its cost in resources again im not sure it could be justified. Once mine is looking respectable Im planning on going to a few shows it would be nice to compare views with someone with such ambition.

04-02-07, 01:58 AM
Yeah i dout most people do, its just that i saw the oppurtunity and it was part of the reason i got the car. Although i had a keen intrest in them ever since i started driving i wanted a performance one. I think part of it is because my dad owned 3 when i was younger and I always wanted one. I think there great little cars, iv had a golf and a 106 and the XE nova i have is my favioured car because of the fun from driving it.

I'm with Craig, never get yourself into debt because of a Nova.

I've been pretty lucky, and that i only took one loan out in 7 years of nova ownership. The loan was to pay off insurance, solicitors fees for something that went wrong and to sort some bits on the car.

Apart from that i've always stuck to my guns, and just saved up and ordered bits as and when i could afford.
