View Full Version : How to change a clutch C20XE
Hello everyone !
Right, I need to change my clutch. I have a C20XE engine in a nova, I have been told the engine needs to be dropped which i will do.
So anyone done this before? Can you tell me stage to stage what i need to do, and what to watch out for. Special tools required? Problems that you encounted. Thank you guys the help is much needed and I thank you in advance. :wisewood: :thumb:
get a haynes manual and it will tell you how to do it.
No need to take the engine out, or even take the gearbox off.
Remove the clutch cover underneath. Put clips on (should some with clutch if you buy a decent kit). Take end cover off box and remove input shaft, undo the clutch from flywheel and drop it out. Fitting is the reverse but use the input shaft to align the clutch on the f/wheel. Obviously while the clutch is out then change the thrust bearing.

I would like to hear from you all if possible ! Everone can help, il have to try and work out the more geniunly experienced advise, from the "ginger know it all's" Thanks Chris, A bit brief but every little helps.....

Next time I see a post asking for help I wont bother. "ginger know it all's" - **** you
lol, sorry mate. Wasnt aiming that at you, Theres a ginger guy i know and hes an absolute bullshi**er. So from that experience a sterotype has been created which within some social groups can be found to be quite a funny joke. I wasnt insinuating you was ginger, and if you are...no offence ment. Take it on the chin, have a good day. You seam like a genuin source, i trust it. Alright.
PS. the ginger thing and your name didnt even cross my mind to make a relasionship between the well known Mr. Chris Evens.
R49 really knows how to get the attention of people lol.....
sa said, its in the haynes manual, if youve not got one then its the first thing you need to buy today.
You killed my thread!
Stating the obvious (Haynes manual) yeah great idea Mr. 12,000ect posts. IV have seen more Haynes manuals than you have any idea of. Putting out the stock of them is a pain! Believe me I know them better than most.
Personal experiences would of helped me no what I was getting into but now totally gone off the point nobodies going to tell me what they experienced. Thanks! Killed it!

Back on topic it depends on what year of c20xe you have, or more importantly what type of flywheel you have.
I its the flat/early type then you ony need to open the inspection plate, loosen the clutch. Remove the gearbox endplate and remove the circlip from the input shaft, undo the splined bolt slide the shaft out and the clutch will drop out.
If its the 'pot'/late type flywheel then you will need to drop the box or the engine.
Thanks mate, Its an XE engine is 90281200. I was reading the hynes mannual today and its looks quite hard. It mentioned some tools that i dont own as well, so i think it might be a bit of a task. I take it its a messy job? gearbox oil everywhere ect. I didnt read the whole task as i was at work and was busy.
Thanks thou mate.

they only tool that u may not have in ur average tool box is the splined bit for the shaft removal and a circlip remover. the circlip pliers can be found in most ?1 shops or ?2.99 asian 'sell everything stores'. The splined bits can be found in most securtity 'bits' packs along with torx bits etc. at the right shop ud leave with change from ?10 for both items.

you can sometimes get the shaft out by gettin a mate to press the clutch while you wedge a screwdriver in the end and pull it SOMETIMES

Does a bit doesnt it, when you could go and buy your own ****ing copy.
Your not doing yourself any favours Mr r49 !!
Changing the clutch is a piece of p*ss either way you do it, but as everyone else says ... buy a f*cking Haynes manual, it'll be the best ?10 you'll spend !!
