The lower your car is, the more it'll naturally toe OUT, just so you know :thumb:

this is really good, insperational infact, going to get some nova mincing done now :)

Adam
12-01-09, 05:57 PM
It didn't "look" any more towed out that it did previously. Its just the drivers wheel seemed to have much more neg camber than the passengers did, with the topmounts in there old position

scott.parker
13-01-09, 01:26 PM
They are a bit fiddly, and its al trial an error Ad, I had my old car set like you DID and the same things happened, so I set it to less camber (gained tire life) and it drove nice.
But for on track allot set them up with the added camber etc, but it just dose not feel to great on the roads.
My new cars set like so, and is not racked up yet and I won’t know its true characteristics till I do so

Pic of how mine are

I did have my top mount "nipples" machinde down slightly, and im running Leaders not AVO, not that tht should make much diff.

Cheers for the pics Scott.

How mine are set at the minute "feels" good on the road, and the handling definently seems more positive with these topmounts on.
So should be even better when i get it booked in for tracking, and hopefully will find out what camber etc it is actually running :)

Ive also booked a week off work, from 9th Feb to 13th, so the XE WILL be in that week :)
Will get the bay all cleaned up, welded and resprayed.
Will be running standard Motronic etc for now, so a standard engine bar a Irmscher powercap and SBD type A exhaust manifold. Should be good for about 155hp :)
Roll on summer and more track action

Rich
13-01-09, 08:10 PM
Im betting heavy rain from the 9th to the 12th, hailstorm on the 13th lol

Is everything ready for the xe now? Are you stitching the bay and respraying it in that week?

Adam
13-01-09, 08:13 PM
If its snowing/raining that week i will put a match and petrol to the car.......

Everythings been ready(i think) for the xe,since about November lol lol
Ive had the engine 5-6month.
No doubt when i fit it i'll find im missing a load of bits i never thought of,LOL

Yep, welding/spray the bay too. Got my big hammer for the alternator ready :)

Rich
13-01-09, 08:16 PM
Noo dont hammer it ! At least get a blow torch on it and hammer it that way, looks alot nicer

peester
13-01-09, 10:33 PM
..and it just seems to skip about all over the road. You can also feel every bump in the road through the front end of the car,... It also seems easier to turn the steering wheel left, than right, if you get me.

aye, know what you mean.. it must be sat on bumpstops too..? little-to-no travel left in the shockers..?

Peester-Ive not driven it at its proper low height, but would guess it would be terrible lol

Benn-yup, i got a bit distracted with other things and here we are in Jan 09 lol lol

Plans over next few months are:-
-Xe in and bay tidied up
-Decide on a colour for my Comp Mo's and get them on (probably dark grey or white)
-Get the bumpers colour coded, with black stripe tape (aint 100% decided on colour coding yet though)
-Get the rear cage painted and in
-Try and tidy the rear arches as best i can

-Annihilate it on some track days/down pod :)

Im sure you might see more then 155bhp if the engines good/or recond, as mine pre TB's was re-ferbed and had powerflow system/power cap ITG filter RR'd @165bhp 158flbt Stealth in Southam www.stealthracing.co.uk (http://www.stealthracing.co.uk)

This arrived today, genuine Irmscher Xe power cap, should save a bit of space in the bay. Bargain price too
Excuse the sh**e pic lol

Bumpers white with a grey strip(same colour as wheels). Wheels grey.

Adam
14-01-09, 10:04 PM
Sounds like a plan. The only prob would be finding bumper strip tape in a dark grey, as it tends to only come in solid colours(white/red/black etc)

Definently going colour code though, as a change for '09 :)

Rich
14-01-09, 10:06 PM
Wont notice the stop chips as bad eh?? lol

Changing colour of the wheels as well?

Leeboo
14-01-09, 10:07 PM
Go to a local sign writers, ask them if you can rummage through their scraps, find some dark grey vinyl, cut it into strips, stick it on your bumper :thumb: .

Thats how I done my red strips, takes more time but looks fine. And yes I do things on the cheap if its feasible lol .

Benn
14-01-09, 10:09 PM
Paint the strip in the bumper, then mask it off and repaint them white..

Adam
14-01-09, 10:09 PM
Ive got a set of flat 15" Mo's which need repainting. So there going in a dark grey/anthracite colour.
The tyres on the cesaros atm are sha**ed though, but i mightjust chuck the new Toyos onto my spare set of silver cesaros for the time being.

Took delivery of some ARP rod bolts tother day for the xe. Might actually fit them if i cba even though the engine wont be revving that high tbh.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN1211Medium.jpg

Also got the Toyos chucked on my spare set of Cesaros (the white ones need repainting, but ive got the Mo's so wont be using the white cesaros..)

And fitted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN1209Medium.jpg
The tyre size is w**k, and makes the wheels look tiny lol

Had a quick drive to make sure they dont rub anywhere (as there 195/50s), all seems good. Grip is miles better than it was, and there not even rubbed in yet.

Then got home and decided spray the white centre caps black, no pics of them fitted. Undecided on them atm, they look weird, but ok if you get me lol

That is all for now :thumb:

So needing some /45 tyres for the Mo's, or im even tempted by a wheel change to something else :)

Oh and btw, the 195/50 tyres rub the rear arches with weight in the back of the car, and on full lock the front tyres rub..... So not ideal.

Adam
06-02-09, 08:36 PM
Aye :(

Another call from DirectLine today, they told me if the assessor puts the car down as a cat a/b writeoff, then you cant buy it back for salvage....
i.e. id lose it, and everything on it...
Can only have it back if its cat c/d, if they agree to letting you buy it back.

If that happens then im moving on from novas definently, as i just wont be arsed hunt around for the many bargains that my car was built from, again.

Oh and to make my week even better i was getting some stuff out the nova boot earlier on, leaned on the edge of the boot to reach into the car/boot, must of pressed on my phone= one ****ed lcd screen
A nice £200 samsung U900 f**ked
Great

John
06-02-09, 08:40 PM
Fook! Take everything salavageable off it before the assessor sees it!

Adam
06-02-09, 08:42 PM
Theres a list of mods on my policy though, so IF he has got that list from my insurance company he will already know what hes expecting to see on the car...........

And will probably then offer me the market value of the car(few hunded quid), and be done with it....

John
06-02-09, 08:45 PM

That's bad. so the fate of your car, hangs with some assessor, who probably won't understand the time, money and effort you've spent on it, rubbish!

Adam
06-02-09, 08:47 PM
Indeed....

He could basically value it at about £300 quid!!!!

When theres 300quids worth of engine under the bonnet alone lol lol

Iain
06-02-09, 08:47 PM
Can you not tell him to go away and you keep the car?

Rich
06-02-09, 08:49 PM
Take bits off it once the assessor has been and told you its a write off? surely whoever comes to pick the car up for scrap isnt going to be there with a long list of mods making sure its all there! Will only be taken off to be crushed? The car is at your house isnt it?

Adam
06-02-09, 08:53 PM
Can you not tell him to go away and you keep the car?
I really dont know mate, dont know whether i can choose not to pursue the claim after ive heard the assessors verdict etc....

Rich-yeah its at my house, but im not sure if the assessor will see the mods on the car, and value according......
If he doesnt, and then cat a/b's it... Im f**ked basically
And tbh most cat C cars ive ever seen have just had a knackered bumper, headlamp... So i really cant see mine just being a cat c.

Welsh Dan
06-02-09, 08:55 PM

Adam
06-02-09, 08:59 PM

If he cat C's it, and i can buy it back, all will be good, as i'll at least get some payout, plus keep the car/all my stuff

peester

Indeed....

hang on, if youve declared the mods on it to the insurers isnt it insured to an agreed value.. certainly more than £300 like..?

Adam
06-02-09, 09:49 PM
Its not insured to an agreed value no.
Mods are insured but im pretty sure HIC "replace modified parts with standard oe items".....
Sure ive read that in the policy somewhee

Adam
07-02-09, 02:23 PM
Bad ass Astra is now insured, cost me £95 extra over the nova!!!! lol
Bit of a pisstake but im really not arsed, so just paid and got on with it.

Now, wheres that manual boost controller  lol

Spudly
07-02-09, 02:34 PM
If they tell you that you cant keep it thats bollox, i was told the same with my old SR that got written off

this one....

http://www.pngclub.com/images/car_images/2632big7.jpg (http://www.pngclub.com/images/car_images/2632big7.jpg)

They said i wasnt allowed to keep it and it had to be destroyed so i told em i wasnt going to claim then as it was worth more to me in parts and sentimental value than they were offering (£325) so they ummed and ahhed then came back to me with, "If you agree that it is only going to be used for a parts" and send them a certificate of destruction when its finished with and crushed then i would be allowed to keep it and the bonus of doing it that way is they see 90% of it as being unuseable so they cant charge you buyback on it either!

Dont let them tell you that you cant keep it as you can, its your car when alls said and done, speak to keith before you accept anything they say as im sure he will back me up bud, trust me you can keep it:thumb:

Adam
07-02-09, 02:49 PM
Cheers mate, hopefully thats the case :)

Aye, before you sign it over and accept their offer, the car is still yours so i assume legally they cant touch f**k all on it.

yes but the other insurance compay should replace like for like, doesn't matter if it's insured like for like on yours

chimp007_uk
07-02-09, 05:32 PM
sometimes they'll ask for the log so the car cant go back on the road. But as said by spudly, cancel the claim if they're arseholes, you're well within your rights!

Nick J
07-02-09, 05:52 PM
Adam, I must have missed something... whats gone on with your motor? Maybe able to offer a little advice as Ive had similar experiances in the past and we deal with insurance assesors at work all the time. :)

Adam
07-02-09, 05:54 PM

And i'll sell the rest of my stuff i have.

scott.parker
07-02-09, 06:17 PM
I know it all seams depressing, but no matter what happens, i would like to see you stay with the nova's.
I could have broke my old one and walked away (some times think i should have) but i didnt as i knew i still loved the nova's.

Benn
07-02-09, 06:33 PM
I guess differernt compneys have different rules, i kept my white one and its was cat d at a guess, as the shell was bent.(kinked roof and sills, kink in the floor)

Just have to wait and see i guess.

Spudly
07-02-09, 07:11 PM

Lol, clutch still slipping lol . I collected some tuning bits for it ad, Massive golf front mount intercooler, (same size as rad) and a home made induction pipe, trialled it but never fitted it (hence you can see the cut/join in the intake pipe near the turbo) Also have a letterbox style back box too. I could easily fetch more than you're paying for it in bits.... And you know it ;)

Had a bit more time on it earlier on this evening.
Got it in the air on axle stands, driveshafts out and box oil drained, exhaust downpipe off the manifold(cant remove it off the system end as the bolt has bent, so wont undo.... ), bottom arms undone, most of the bay loom unplugged.
The front coilovers ive already removed, they are sound :)

Now ive got the car in the air and the downpipe bent down out the way i should be able swap the sump over, so think i'll make that 1st job tomorrow morning.
Hoping to get front brakes off tomorrow, and the engine out in the morning. Got somewhere to be in the afternoon, getting ready for Fri night

TBH it wont take long to strip at all, once engines out, its just the rear suspension, fuel tank and exhaust left for mechanicals. Then i'll start on the interior.

And a saloon? BEHAVE lol lol lol

Adam
13-02-09, 03:39 PM
Had an early start this morning.
Chucked the new sump on(which is also fc*ked as the threads on the sump hole are very weak, but luckily it holds oil. Cheers CorsaSport user

Cant keep a small block down :D, fired up first go, oil light went straight out, result lol lol Vids to follow

Is this going to be your first MK1 then? :D

Also are you going to just put the X16 in, or go straight on with building a big block :D

Ernie

I think he will be going upto the big block as i think he has sold his 1.6 to Baxter.

Rick Draper
16-02-09, 04:58 PM
Stepping up to the plate with a mans engine at last!

Adam
16-02-09, 06:04 PM
1.6 is as good as sold to Baxter....
So its going big block aye.
Pretty much std xe for now, but i have the bodies for future use......

And the original type bumpers are staying. I just need some old skool wheels for it as i think my mo's are a bit too "modern" on a b-reg mk1.....

Count Vaux Alot

I really dont know if i can face a mk1 interior! lol lol
The only mk1 dash ive ever liked is peesters flocked one....

Yep, all being well i'll be having John's shell (he's keeping the green interior btw) :)
I might be tempted by a mk1 dash dash, get it flocked black. As i'll be re-fitting my buckets, and rear cage, possibly my gsi rear seats too (i like black interiors)

Im glad its not white tbh! Got a bit fed up of white lol, especially at pv etc with every 3 out of 5 novas being white :thumb:

Find me some old skool rims!!! Simon on msn put an idea forward of maybe getting my Mo's done body coloured, or like a light gold.... Could work maybe
Flat old skool mo's work on Matts, maybe because the cars white though

Looking at a few pics, so do i......

Might have to get the rattle cans out on a mk1 dash then see how it looks lol

Anyone got a grey mk1 dash(and underselves etc) ?

Doorcards are stuff will be staying black, mk2.

Benn
17-02-09, 10:28 PM
What colour are they at the mo?

Adam
17-02-09, 10:33 PM
The interior in the white one is currently black. GSi doorcards/rear seats, black buckets, black dash.
So was thinking of swapping everything over, but fitting a black mk1 dash to keep it looking a bit older to match the exterior.....

The Simps
17-02-09, 10:44 PM
I'm sure I remember seeing someone selling a black mk1 dash on here last year. They are very rare tho, only one I'd ever seen! lol

The front springs are 7" you say? I'm sure my std avo's were 8". Fairly certain the 300lbs are 8" too.

Hopefully get it sorted over the weekend, to leave it just as a sitting shell.

John
19-02-09, 07:46 PM

Didnt even move about when cornering :D

As for the scrap shell, no idea mate. Will probably just ring one of those ad's in the local paper saying scrap cars collected for free.... And say ive got a Nova i want collecting, and forget to mention its a shell with a handbrake, rolling on 4 steelies lol lol

Adam
19-02-09, 08:49 PM
Oh, the whole interior is green, yes green lol

But Johns keeping all of that....

So i can either fit my black mk2 dash, or fit a mk1 dash(which will either be flocked or painted black)

Benn
19-02-09, 08:51 PM
Ah shame, that green is so horny it, would have been awesome.

I hated my mk1 dash when i had mine mk1, that was one of the reason i had to havea mk2.

How are the window surrounds held on? Do the window rubbers hold them?

How are the window surrounds held on? Do the window rubbers hold them?

Yep just the seal that holds them in.

Spudly
21-02-09, 06:14 PM
How are the window surrounds held on? Do the window rubbers hold them?

The fronts clip into the window rubbers and go onto the doors with them and are a pia to get off without bending, whereas the rears are sat in with the rubber seal but are also sticky sealed in with a thin double sided sticky pad all around the bit that overlaps the body, ive found easiest way to remove is to take the glass out then run a stanley blade in between the surround and body gently parting and twisting it and after a little careful persuasion they will pop off!

AlexW
21-02-09, 06:20 PM

Couldnt be arsed do much on it today, bit of a late one last night, and then work this morning....

Went round Johns and stuck my sr seats in his shell, to shift them out my way. Good to see the floorpan etc etc properly mint on Johns shell too, its in 3 times the condition mine was

Then did some Astra pimping, got the boost controller fitted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN1319Medium.jpg

Noticed a bit of oil in the boost pipes too, so the turbo has seen better days, but still boosts fine, so Meh

General Baxter
22-02-09, 06:07 PM

John
22-02-09, 06:07 PM
Can't the white ring mod be done?

(baxter, you have pm)

Adam
22-02-09, 07:16 PM
Wipped the fuel pump diaphram thing off earlier to do the white ring mod, but the white ring is quite tough and the only stanley knife i had wouldnt touch it! lol
So i just put it back together. Is that mod 100% neccessary???

Ive just turned the fuel screw 90deg clockwise, and went for a drive and its now holding a Bar boost from about 2300rpm to about 5k
And is now much nippier to drive! Especially in 3rd gear.

Thats with the boost controller wound fully out(min boost), tried upping it more but it then wouldnt go above standard 9psi, maybe the safety valve thing in the lower inlet???

So wound the controller back to fully out and its now holding a bar again, so i think i'll settle at that.
Going bin the standard intake pipework/airbox asap, and get a decent IC on there, at the minute if you hold it on full boost for a bit(on motorway etc) the coolant temp starts rising quite quickly lol
Drops straight away if you back off for a bit.

General Baxter
22-02-09, 07:19 PM

22-02-09, 08:47 PM

I will be able bin the white ring thingy if i swap the inlet, as you can remove the pump plunger completely, and then slide the ring off instead of trying cut it whilsts sticking your arm down behind the inlet lol

Hopefully new shell will be sorted and running for Spring action day at Combe in April :)
Thats my deadline, and only having weekends to work on it doesnt help....
At least the nights are getting lighter

Dave, yes ive took it off. What you offering? Dont know whether keep it or not.

Cheers Scott :)
Aye, the astra shifts now. 16psi boost in 4th/5th makes it a piece of piss to overtake on dual carriageway/motorway too ;)
VAG TDI's usually respond well to a remap, being ecu controlled you cant just simply turn a screw to up the fuel/boost like you can on these old mechanical Izuzus :)

Cant wait to f**k it off tbh! Sick of the sight of it sitting there. I really dont know how people spend years building a car/looking at a shell, id want it done asap.

Not bad for an hours work.
Rear beam is just resting on an old wheel lol
Rear panel is quite rotted too!

Not much left now!!
Just pretty much the glass/window surrounds and doors/boot
Oh and i need to remove my front Koni's, but have no std suspension to fit as of yet.

Another weekend gone, and little time spent on the car im afraid lol lol

Ian came over today to get the windscreen, but managed to break it trying to get it out, fail :(
He also dropped me some front struts off and a mk1 dash, top guy!

I did manage to find the time to remove the side rear windows, and the rear window though, and fit the front struts.
Just the doors left to remove, im going just grind the hinges off the car... lol
CBA with door pins lol

And i just need to chuck either some rear springs, or rear dampers on the rear so it'll roll. And that shall be it :(

Want it gone this week, hoping have the new shell next weekend :)

Hoping for a bit of Boooooost for this shell too ;)

The plan is a standard/ph1 let.
Keeping a f20 box etc

Dont want to go mad power wise, to keep it reliable and a bit more predictable on track etc :)
