Did a bit of scrap yard hunting today.
And got a complete EDIS system. Hopefully its in working order lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Edis1.jpg

Just need the MJ ecu, and some wiring to make a loom with now.

And then just the small bits i will need to buy(throttle cable, crank trigger etc etc etc)

05-01-08, 08:22 PM
wot makes you want a mj ecu? ive just fimished today putting carbs and set up on my mates 2.0 ecotec engine we used the things you have in your pic,but we used a sierra 1.8 bottom pully for the firing teeth and a crank sensor from the same little time to get it firing but shes alive now lol

Adam
05-01-08, 08:23 PM
Because the MJ ecu controls the ignition.

Using the edis system alone gives ignition yeah, sat at 10degs btdc! lol
You get no ignition control/advance.

Lovin the plug lead removal lol, what model ford did you get it from ad?

Adam
05-01-08, 08:29 PM
N-plate Escort iirc John.

LOL @ at the lead removal comment.

The coilpack is mounted on the back of the block! WTF, only ford could mount something quite important in the stupidest place ever. lol
Must of took me an 40mins get to the screws after causing quite a bit of damage ripping bits of the engine off out the way lol

true mate i no what your sayin BUT lol we also thort bout this so the mount we had to make for the crank sensor we made in such a way that it can be ajusted to sort out the problem of befor/after tdc.its on a roling road next tuesday for the final set up so we will fing out how for were out lol im sure something may need a little ajustment.its fookin quick tho and its in a old opel kaddet

Adam
06-01-08, 12:24 AM
Huh? moving the crank sensor wont do anything.
Edis itself isn't a complete control system, it needs an ecu to tell it what to advance the ignition to.
If you've just wired edis up and are leaving it like that your ignition will sit at 10deg and wont move. It will drive terribly as the ignition advance isn't changing.

Got home today to find this had arrived :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN008933.jpg

Hooked it up to a spare battery, and my laptop, and all's good :D
The box is tiny, that cd in the pic is one of these 7/8cm mini cd's, so you can see how small the box is.

Ive made up a map that should get it running, it will need a probably map making to get the best out of it tho.

Cheers Craig.

CoolTiger-As Novalicious said. Astra mk3s also have them too.

Peester-WHAT? lollol
If your referring to the small block box, its a diy build shift light kit :p

Speaking of the car actually, had a very close call tonight. On the way home from work, the back end stepped out BIG time on a greasy roundabout(i.e. the front end at one point was pointing at the middle of the roundabout lol)
First time thats ever happened on me, didn't realise what was happening at first, luckily i steered into in(instinctively i think) and managed stop it going full circle onto the central island on the roundabout  Luckily the roundabout isn't very busy and was empty at the time. Could of been a different story if it had been rush hour.

I know exactly why i happened tho, its quite a tight turn to go around the roundabout, and just before turning i remember letting off the throttle slightly, which must of changed the weight to the front of the car, letting the back end swing out. Hope i never experience that feeling again(well not on a road anyway lol)

Hmm, some guys knocking out replica mantzel powerboxes on corsasport for ?130, and one is SERIOUSLY tempting me.

Also will soon have a 4-1 exhaust manifold thanks to Hendrix.

A powerbox and 4-1 would be nice, and i'll still keep the reliability/fuel consumption i need for the cars everyday usage!

HMM, what to do :( lol

Think Peester was on about it looking like a bluetooth handsfree kit....

Anyway, buy the rep mantzel anyway, fit it and see what you think, it will hold it's value till you get the carbs all sorted and swap 'em over and sell the mantzel. Job done :thumb:

Quick update, as quite a few people know, all the carb stuff is sold/for sale.
Just couldn't be ****d with the hassel of manual chokes, cold starts etc etc, especially when the novas my only car and needed daily in all weathers.

So,
Received the mantzel rep through the post the other day.
Also dug out some old silicone pipes, to make up some form of air filter intake pipe with:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0134sized.jpg

Inlet boxed quickly got a re-paint in the worlds most favourite colour lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0137sized.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0138sized.jpg
And the TB got a clean up.

It will be getting fitted next weekend :)

Should also be getting my 4-1 exhaust manifold off Hendrix next week sometime too :)

I will be very interested to see what it does on the png RR day in March :)
Hoping for 125/130. The standard limiter may prove to be the biggest restriction in what it makes.

That is all for now.

nathan.

27-01-08, 02:11 PM
Well actually, i told a lie.
Nothing is sold at this time.

But the carbs/inlet are ending on ebay tonight.

And Tom reid has his name on the MJ and edis setup.

But atm i still have everything lol

Adam
02-02-08, 05:31 PM
Right.
Inlet box is now on and fitted, aint had chance to drive it yet, as im waiting for the tigerseal to dry(for the intake air temp sensor)
The engine looks pretty cool with it fitted :)
For anyone fitting on to theres, be aware its more difficult than fitting it on a corsa. The wiring needs a lot of relocating to make it reach, and the air intake pipe sits very close to the suspension turret.

Also got a 4-1 exhaust manifold off Hendrix, got that painted up in heat paint(needs another spray). Will probably fit that next weekend :)

Right, had the inlet on for 100-200 miles now.
And my opinion is well recommended.

Drives pretty much as well as the standard engine, but just pulls much harder from 4k to the limiter. Can definently feel the difference.
Throttle response is also better. :)

Be interesting see what it does on the rollers next month, with the 4-1 manifold on as well :)

Adam
08-02-08, 06:05 PM
Had a good long drive on the way home from work today, went through the peak district, as it was nice, sunny weather.

Got home and cracked on with fitting this 4-1 manifold(easy job i thought)
Got the standard manifold off in no time, compared it to the new.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0163.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0164.jpg
Fitment looks identical, which is good.
THO, taking a closer look at the manifold, the tubing on the new manifold actually looks more restrictive than the standard manifold/downpipe setup. The primaries/collector seem quite thin, to me. I have a feeling it may be a 8v 4-1 manifold, thats been cut, and a 16v head flange welded on.... As it looks very similar to an ashley, but with the tubing just moved to fit round the 16v sump.

Anyways, cracked on,got it all on. bolted to the head.
Went to bolt it to the system and found it wont bolt up right. It forces the exhaust system to sit way too high, and jam hard against the transmission lever box in the transmission tunnel

So ripped the fcuking lot off, and bolted the standard manifold setup back on(need the car tonight)
Gave the standard setup a spray of black heat paint, which should add 10 brake ;) lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0166.jpg

So im not sure what to do now. Need to find out how well the manifold fitted on the car it came off.

nathan.
08-02-08, 06:56 PM
Shame. Can't you heat it with blow torch (if you have one) and bend it down slightly.

Adam
08-02-08, 06:59 PM
Probably lol

Might have another crack tomorrow.
Im a bit undecided whether fitting it would change much anyway, the bore size of the pipework looks more restrictive than standard.
Thought i guess each port having its own primary pipe/exit would help.

coochiSR
08-02-08, 07:20 PM
More torque though?
Shame really Ad but it's worth fitting and finding out. If you can be bothered with the hassle of bending it etc.

Good luck though man ;)

it was Will F's old one adam, maybe ask him?

Adam
08-02-08, 07:24 PM
Tis Martin.
Ive pm'd him.

I have a feeling he had it customly made to suit his nova, with an internal gear shifter. Hence it hits the level box bolted in the transmission tunnel on mine, due to having the standard shifter setup....... :(

Cooch-Possbly, no idea mate tbh lol

Adam
09-02-08, 03:51 PM
Had a word with Will F, and it fitted his system/car fine. With an internal shifter.
So it must be down to my exhaust system not sitting right.

Going have to cut a slot in the collector 4-1 pipe, bend the pipe down, and then weld the slot back up, to try and make it point lower.
That should sort it imo.

Cba do it now tho lol

maccas
12-02-08, 01:44 PM
i know what you mean about the header pipes looking larger diameter on the standard system, but you've got to remember that the standard manifold is cast iron so the walls of the pipes will be much thicker on the standard manifold, so the actual bore of the pipes on the standard manifold may be smaller than your 4-1 jobbie? it will definately benefit from 4-1 though because of the effect of each cylinders pressure waves etc.

maccas

Adam
12-02-08, 04:20 PM
Aye mate.
The 4-1 is going on, just dont know when. Need to find time get the welder and grinder out, and crack on with it.

if only you was closer id of welded it for you bud..

anymore updates?

Adam
12-02-08, 04:46 PM
The welding aint the problem, the problem is ive never got time do it with having no garage etc work in.

No updates atm.
Will be picking up some cheap buckets/harnesses off Riggy this weekend tho, so they'll be going in, and the rear interior will be coming out :)

Halfway there, whens the xe goin in? lol

Is the inlet alot better? I know the 16xe is usually quite sluggish/poor low down has it improved it alot?

Adam
12-02-08, 05:16 PM
It already has an xe in :p lol
TBH, it will never be big block'd, unless something drastic happens to my baby engine(in which case id probably break the car)

Yeah, the inlets much better, well worth the cash.
Low down pull was never as good as my old 8v's, and that remains unchange even with the inlet box on. But about 3.5-4k rpm it picks up and pulls hard straight to the limiter.

12-02-08, 06:44 PM

Had a mince at Riggys today, with Lee H, Rexy and Chris?
Pepe is looking very tidy indeed, rexy's done a good job on the paintwork

We had fun trying to fit a full cage into Lee H's daily runner, proper tight fit(as expected seeing as it tightens the shell) Rexy managed to get the last bar in armed with a hammer lol
And then Lee decided check his oil level because hes been having a few oil burning issues. "It doesn't seem to be smoking now", Lee checks the oil "Hmm, the dipsticks dry", "I wonder what it'll smoke like with oil in" lol
"Its parked on a hill", "No thats just me telling myself that" lol

Collected the seats/harnesses, and baxters suspension off Riggy.
Will get pics tomorrow.

Couldn't resist a quick 5th gear blast on my way down the m6(as it was empty) on the way home. Pretty impressive speed for a 1600 ;)

Wasn't able get much done today as i was working for a few hours.
Did manage to start cleaning the seats and harnesses though, and took a few pics. There in decent condition apart from one tear in the drivers boulster, fine for what i want them for tho. There also noticeably lighter than a sr seat, so a bit of weight saving going on too, which is always good

Aye, hopefully just a screw/bolt in the "fin" part where it joins the arch lip, and tigerseal on the long part will keep them on.

Managed to do an even better one today.

Set off up to garage this morning, thought temperature is getting high a bit quick. Turns out the water in the coolant system had frozen so wouldn't circulate. Had all the radiator and stuff out to unfreeze it all. No damage done luckily.

Teach me for not using antifreeze.

You get used to kind of swinging yourself in via the A pillar. lol You'll also get sick of adjusting the passenger harness for each passenger you have. Looks good though, nice job on the holes; I had to stagger mine as my spreader plates were bigger than yours.

Adam
22-02-08, 06:38 PM
Yeah Iain you used the proper FIA plates which are larger.
Ive just used the road legal basic ones. ?2.50 for 2 from EDS motorsport for anyone that wants some.

Lookin good Ads, methinks it would be better with a nice welded in strut brace to mount the harnesses on?
Will see you next week to sort out the MJ

Adam

Aye, a welded in brace would be cool.
I'd still bolt the harnesses to the floor mounts tho!

Right, time for another update. Sold my 4-1 manifold, and will be selling the Ashley system too. As im getting a custom Stainless 2.25" system, and manifold made to fit the system off a guy on mig. Hopefully i'll receive it, and have it fitted before the RR day.

Now with black buckets, the blue door cards etc etc didn't fit in very well.
So i decided get black panels. Found some gsi rear arch carpets on mig.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q67/danielkperry/Unit/P1010045-1.jpg

Got those sprayed up black along with the parcel shelf supports(colour looks a perfect match for gsi IMO)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Dscn0219.jpg
Just need do the rear cards black, and fit some gsi front door cards now.

Also picked up a very good condition dash from a 5dr in the scrappy(mine was marked/ripped in places):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Dscn0222.jpg
Thats going black too lol

And finally, got a chrome fuel cap, looked a bit chavvy tho, so it was sanded down, and sprayed up gloss black(which is what colour the bumpers and wheels will be soon)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Dscn0211.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Dscn0215.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Dscn0226.jpg

Im also tempted to get some gsi rear seats, and fit those. They'll never be used, but will match the now black interior, and reduce noise.....

That is all for now :)

craig green
08-03-08, 05:45 PM
Black stuff looks spot on Adam. Is it a fabric/interior spray?

GSi seatbacks weigh a tonne too. I'd find a way of lightening them up some how.

Ste L
08-03-08, 05:50 PM
if you wannt reduce noise, just carpet the back out with accostic carpet, will look good, too..

better than what it would with harness's going though the back seats etc etc

then get your spare cesaro in the boot, instead of the sri steelie :thumb:

Adam
08-03-08, 05:52 PM
Just normal matt black mate. It stays on well too :)
I could easily remove the rear seats for pod/track days anyways. I just think it looks better than a bare floor, especially in a daily runner.

Yeah, as you use it on stealth shelfs etc.
I have 2 spare 195/45 tyres and a few spare cesaro rims lol, just need a tyre fitting.
Will a 15" alloy fit in the wheel well?

YES, the rolling radius on a 195/45/15 is smaller than a 13" with standard balloon tyre ;)

Sorted then. I'll get a tyre chucked on one of my spare rims :)

Going on from what Ste L has said; Have you thought about putting a false floor in the rear? (that's if you aren't fitting rear seats).

Adam
10-03-08, 04:26 PM
I have done yeah. Not sure how much it would cost to do, although mdf is pretty cheap.
Sure i have a pic somewhere of a stripped out car with a false floor, looked pretty cool.

I will be picking up some gsi rear seats off Baxter at the png rolling road day anyways(he picked them up off novacabrio for me), so i'll see how i go with them fitted. Keeping them in for everyday use, and then stripping it bare again for pod/track days is looking the likely plan :)

Jim
12-03-08, 09:02 AM
I used to have a flase floor. I have a template at home for a floor in 2 pieces split down the middle. I tried many variations before finally going with this method. I got some 25mm x 25mm slats and created a frame for the false floor to sit on. I got some foam which I glued to the underside of the slats to stop them from vibrating on the chassis. I used 4' x 2' 9mm mdf to make the floor then covered them in black acoustic carpet. I used harnesses and cut out small slots in the false floor for the harness straps.

I will try and find some pics when I get a chance.

Bouch-Nova gsi/sri/gte rad, and the standard corsa top hose mate.

Right, have been spraying the dash parts this week, giving them a few days dry.
So finished work at dinner, and cracked on fitting the dash.
Switch panels removed, steering wheel off(nightmare job btw, ended up heating the boss up with a heatgun to make it expand, and it then slipped right off )

I did say my wiring would be a tad on the messy side lol

I seperated the wiring, and wrapped it into individual looms, so i have a wrapped loom going to the door lock switches, and another going to the headunit etc etc.
Instead of just having a bunch of wires lying about. :)

Right.
Picked up some GSi rear seats on Saturday off Baxter, who collected them off NovaCabrio for me :)
Fitted:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0403Medium.jpg
Also collected some GSi sill trims off Franny today, cheers mate
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0401Medium.jpg

Also on Saturday I collected my new exhaust system and manifold. Its a prototype, custom made at Ashley, to fit a 1400/1600 16v Nova. 2 box, stainless steel 2.25" pipework, 3" slash cut tail, 4-1 manifold with 2.25" flange, i suspect it cost a lot of money originally, but i got it for a great price :) lol
Got it sprayed up today, notice the front pipe join is a slip/clamp join instead of a normal flexi cone type join, which gives a better flow ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0399Medium.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0395Medium.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0398Medium.jpg
The tail isn't what i would of chosen, but i cant complain, and it'll do fine.
I'll get the lot fitted this week sometime(but may decide to move the lambda position, as i dont like it just sensing one cylinders exhaust gases, has the potential to cause damage if say an injector failed)

Adam
23-03-08, 04:28 PM
Anyways, back to the rolling road, all went well and i came back very pleased with my results, if anything the rollers may have been a bit on the under reading side, as quite a few engines made below standard power.
Mine made 127bhp, and 111 lb/ft, though the torque peaked at 2900rpm, which was low, but you can see from the graph the peak level pretty much holds out through the rev range, instead of just below low-peak-low
Old graph with a standard inlet fitted(notice torque line)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/160016vrrprintout-JNC-12_08_07-resi.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/160016vrrprintout-JNC-12_08_07-resi.jpg)
Jamsports graph, with powerbox fitted:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/JamsportRRgraph-22ndMarch2008Large.jpg

And a few pics of the car at Jamsport(shame about the TV pics being done when the car was the dirtiest it has ever been, thats what a 130mile through snow and hail down the m1 does lol) Oh well
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0277.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0305.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0307.jpg

And a vid of it on the rollers:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/PNG%20RR%20day-22nd%20March%2008-%20Jamsport/th_Mine.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/PNG%20RR%20day-22nd%20March%2008-%20Jamsport/?action=view&current=Mine.flv)

Thats all for now, more when i fit the manifold/system :)

Cracked on with the system today, and for once, everything fitted perfectly first go lol
Old vs New manifold:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0414Medium.jpg
Manifold on(with lambda just sensing one cylinder, but it'll do for now)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0416Medium.jpg
Old vs New Backbox(larger pipe bore, and bigger silencer)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0420Medium.jpg

All fitted:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0421Medium.jpg

The previously owner must of liked the angled exit of a mk1, and hence had the tail made like that. Id prefer a straight exit, but it'll do nicely.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCN0429Medium.jpg

All good, sits nicely, and even better doesn't tap on the car underside like the old system lol. It sounds pretty cool too :)

Drives well mate, very well.
It even pulls fine from low down.

Im pleased with it tbh, and dont really see a reason to spend anything else on the engine. It does its job day in, day out, and has enough power to have some fun with :)

Im looking forward to taking it round Combe on the 19th, and seeing what sort of 1/4 times it does now at Pod :)

Right, time for an update.

As most people know, i went Combe on the 19th, had a cracking day. Car had a good hammering, and even drove the 150mile there, and 150mile home without even as much as a misfire :D
Few pics:
http://images35.fotki.com/v1164/free/d5b4e/1/1293158/6150667/DSC_0141-vi.jpg?1208811230

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b316/bennh3/Combe/ad1rs.jpg

Also had a passenger ride in Lee's, which made me realise i need more powahhh Lmao
So the plans are ARP rod bolts, headwork, Go-Tech MFi engine management from Jamsport, and a set of Newmanns 288 cams(good for 3k to 7.5k rpm), my current inlet is staying(i dont see it being much of a problem, tb's would be nice but ££££)
Hoping get that all sorted for this June/July time. Hopefully will see over 150bhp.

Also planning on getting another runaround and making my car more suitable for track, fully stripped, F/G bonnet and boot come to mind.

And finally, for this years PV etc i got hold of some 80/90mm rear springs off Twag, and they sit the rear end nicely.
Before on 60s(ignore rusting arch :( ):

After:

Standard is 105bhp.
Ive spent fook all on it, and got around a 25hp gain, which is pretty good going IMO

When you say people quote loads more, how do you mean?
Yes over 200bhp is possible with a lot of money :thumb:

Cheers Benn, i really like the ride height, and best of all the wheels dont rub, even with all the interior in :D

Engine mods are on hold atm, i have the 288 cams, but nothing else atm. But im kind of tempted with a cheap 20xe, and a WON nitrous kit for 1/4 miles.... Would cost less than getting my current engine to 150hp Imo.

Front needs to be lower now :p . Will those cams go straight in? Thought you would need pocketed pistons to run a high lift?
Lol, fronts staying as it is ;)

Aye, the cams wont go in with std pistons and they wont even run with standard management lol

So i need 2mm pockets putting into them, but i really need another bottom end to play about with as i need a car everyday so cant have my current engine in bits :(

Oh, also bought this. A DIY build Wideband lambda controller and display, from the US :)
Comes like this

And it'll look like this in action(displaying AFR):

Handy for mapping :D

Just need a Bosch W/B sensor :)

Edit-Just hooked it up to a spare battery, and all is working fine

Any link to the wideband set up Adam?

I assume with the cams, you are looking to use the bike carbs & inlet you had before? ..... track day bug?

Lol, keep up Craig, i sold the bike carbs and inlet months ago ;) lol

The plan was:
Keep my current inlet setup
The new 288 cams
Keep current exhaust manifold and system
Arp rod bolts/SBD cambelt rollers
Go-tech Management.

Would be good for 150/160hp imo.

But i am VERY tempted by a BB, but having trouble finding cv's/shafts which is kind of putting me off tbh, plus the cost of rebuilding the engine(cambelt etc etc), mount kit, proper front springs. Would cost as much to convert as to get my curreent engine to 150/160hp IMO.

So im in two minds(as usual), would be cool seeing whats possible from a baby xe through without throttle bodies.

And yeah, i want to do more track days in it, but still keep it road driveable/legal

Had a few engine/car "probs" this morning, fcuker let me down for the first time ever, had to get a taxi to work lol

Anyways, got home and decided spray the bumpers/grab handle gloss black, looks better than the old grey colour IMO :)
Not the best of jobs, but it'll be fine :)

Adam
09-05-08, 10:13 PM
Yes :D

I dont know what the problem is yet, but it wont turn over and im having some weird electrical problems. Thinking its a broken main starter earth or something.

Will have a look tomorrow

Time for a slight update.

After Combe i decided i needed more power, so planned a xe conversion. But thats off the cards ATM, due to money needing spending on other things than cars, and having no time to do a conversion(car is used daily for work etc)
SO baby xe is staying for now

Discs and pads on my 16v brakes were getting on a bit, so i decided fit some 284s :D
Using Cally Turbo calipers(cheers John), genuine GM pads, and Fiat Coupe discs.
Got them fitted yesterday, will do a how to when i have time :)

Old 256
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0746Custom.jpg
Here you can see an "imprint" of the brake pad left on the disc, which is NOT good, and is probably the reason i was getting slight vibration when braking hard.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0752Custom.jpg

New 284 vs 256
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0755Custom.jpg

Now, you can see the reason the Coupe dics dont go straight on, one hole is slightly out
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0756Custom.jpg
So, sorted that with a drill/carbide bit, and they fly straight on.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0762Custom.jpg

New caliper(the 54 being the piston size, whereas v6 are 57 giving a "longer" pedal, hence i went for these)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/Turbo%20brake%20fitment/DSCN0760Custom.jpg

Did a few miles with them on today, did some 70-5 "braking runs" to bed them on. And Foooook me they work lol
You can feel the rear end go properly light under hard braking, and speedo needle bounces off the zero stop lol
Thank god i have harnesses fitted, lol

Overall, a very good result, id recommend them.
BTW, the pedal is no different to a 256 setup, which i was also pleased about :)

Thats all for now :thumb:

But im hoping they work well around Donny in July :)

Good work Ad. Interesting that you find the pedal no different. May consider these as an upgrade although i should really fit some billets lol

Adam
25-05-08, 05:20 PM
Ive had V6 calipers on before, and they were terrible. Well, they worked great, but with the pedal 2" off the floor.
These have a similar piston size to 2L 16v, but bigger pads/discs.

So a good overall choice :)

27-05-08, 04:40 PM
Great progress as usual mate.

In the back of my mind I know I want 284's. Reading this just makes me wish I had them now. Atleast it might prove a worthy upgrade at the end of the summer maybe.

Glad you are staying smallblock for the time being anyway. No more traitor jokes, sorry..

Adam
27-05-08, 05:07 PM
Have you got to drive yours anywhere to use the brakes yet? Opinion of v6?

Although yours may be better with a corsa mc/servo setup.

Picking up xe shafts at PV, so the options always there. But im just tempted sell them on tbh, cant really be ****d converting. May well just leave it as it is tbh

jesus christ, this cars nearly been treated to:

1.2i?
1.4carb
1.4 twin carbs
1.6 16V
1.6 16V Bike Carbs
1.6 16V Mantzel Gear
2.0 XE nearly a few hundred times.

Decide what you want damn you!

Its actually had all of those apart from the xe, and the bike carbs :p

27-05-08, 05:19 PM
Adam, my brakes need bleeding again (leaked I think) & I havent sorted the vacuum connection for the servo. So I havent had a chance to use the brakes really. All I know is the foot brakes dont work & the handbrake overheats...

If you want an opinion on an engine. Ask Adam.

Quick update
PV all done, managed to get into the 15s on the strip. Will go quicker, but red hot weather and heavier front brakes didn't help things.
Few pics at pv

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/entrance.jpg

And a cool strip pic, big thanks to Olly/NeoCapture for this(as good/better than the "proper" Santa Pod photographer)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/PV0859Medium.jpg

Picked up a few goodies at PV. 22spline conversion shafts, and Olly H's old rear springs from his Spax coilover set.
Got them fitted yesterday as i only want the 90s on for shows.
Sits proper high now,but definently handles better as the springs/shocks have more travel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v86/Nova-crew/DSCF0001Medium.jpg

Also booked a trackday for July 18th, at Donnington. Evening open pit session with Olly H and Nathan.
Cant wait :D

Thats all for now.

It has better brakes than it used to, and will soon have avo front coilovers/higher poundage fr. springs so should handle a bit better than it used to too. So im hoping it goes fine around Donny in July :)

Rich-Oh well, cant please everyone lol

20xe would mean more weight, so im kind of hoping its not too far behind xe pace on track. Has about 130hp, and should be a bit lighter than with a xe in. Nathan should be at Donny, and he has a standard xe in his(cars track prepared tho), so that could be a good test for mine :)

Cost was £58 inc vat. Bit expensive for what they've replaced, but oh well.

Just need sort some top mounts now

Any gen on top mounts? Do you know if std OE mounts swap over?
And do yours have dust shields/covers over the piston rod???
