battery chargin problems,strange 1 this

hey lads bit of a strange 1 for ye???my novas alternater stoped chargin the other day so this evening we changed the alternater,still not charging:confused: on the voltmeter battery was reading 12 but the alternater was reading 14:confused: . thought ok mayby a dodgy battery il do that tomorrow. went to turn the car off, took the key out and car was still running:eek: had to stall it to turn it off
what the hell is goin on, has my nova got a mind of its own now or something:cool:

im not to sure but i think if the engine stays runnin it could have somethin to do with ur ignition timing an is ya alternater been earthed

Yeah sounds like an ignition lead is earthed. Im not any expert but i recently changed my alternator, my problem was that i didnt take not of what wires went where. I found that I could turn the engine off, take the key out and the battery light came on which ment battery power was still being drained so i swapped the wires over and it fixed the problem.
