Mk1 Mirrors... how to dismantle?

Does anyone know how to remove the inner black plastic surround on the Nova mirror? Haven't had a look but hoping it will be easy?

hold both parts and pull hard, failing that wedge a screw driver and prise the two apart.

black iner is part of the wing mirror its slef dosen't some off really. the shell does if looking to spray will have to remover the whole unit fomr car and do it that way
