I think that looks aweful. Sorry mate. Nice idea, but on your neck ... oh dear. When you're older and more sensible you'll always have to wear a roll neck jumper in public lol

Jack
25-01-07, 12:32 PM
I don't like it either, but then tattoos and piercings are a big turn off in my book.. so my opinion isn't worth diddly squat really lol

wisewood
25-01-07, 12:36 PM
I don't mind them, but they're something that's become really popular lately among younger and younger people. Once it's there you've gotta put up with it for a VERY long time. OR, pay a fortune for laser tattoo removal, which doesn't come cheap - but i can suggest a good clinic to get it done lol Run by an old friend of mine.

Breeny
25-01-07, 01:36 PM
I completely disagree.

More of my friends who are 35+ have tattoo's than my friends that are ~ the same age as myself. Hardly any of them regret having them done. In fact my Girlfriend's Dad's Girlfriend (lol) has just had a tattoo done, she's the Sunday Times most popular author and well into her 40's! It's all walks of life that have them done.

People who like tattoo's and piercings generally stay with the trend for life also.

Dpnova
25-01-07, 01:41 PM
i have no doubt i wont really like mine when im 60, ill look like a wrinkly old lamp shade

little tattoos you can deal with in later life, a big ol one on your neck my cause some regrets later in life

You dont wanna know what I think!

They would say that! lol

It entirely depends on the tattoo that the person gets, how much thought went into it, and the reasons they wanted it... and where it is... and what colours are included. Some wear well, some look terrible when they age.

Also, for removal purposes, black works best - colours such as red/orange/yellow are very difficult to get rid of.

i have 2 tattos that mean something and another 11 or so that dont

/\/\ yupp.

My grandad's got one on his forearm ... two love birds with a banner underneath containing my grandma's name. Its all one big black blob, has been for about 15 years now. Looks like a subdermal bleed.

Same reason I wouldnt want a Mrs with one on her lower back.

imagine banging it when your 50odd & its just a blob of ink under the skin...? yuck!

Breeny

To be fair, no one is going to have the same opinion are they... the world would be a boring place.

I think its pretty cool, especially if the design has a meaning to you like all mine do.

I can see why some people dislike them, its purely a personal preference at the end of the day! :)

wisewood
25-01-07, 02:27 PM
I wanted my own design on the back of my left shoulder many moons ago, but never bothered getting it done, and I'm glad I didn't now.

Kids names and stuff like that i can understand - sentimental stuff ... i'd consider that, somewhere discrete... because lets face it, who'd want to hire an accountant who had his kids names tattoo'd across his forehead - or a tribal design passing through a heart on his neck for that matter lol

/\/\/\ awesome !! lol

Jim says:
tattoos are for girls :p
Breeeny says:
LOL...

Jim likes them too! :D

wisewood
25-01-07, 02:28 PM
Jim obviously prefers something more manly - like self inflicted scars from hunting knives lol

Matt2107
25-01-07, 03:26 PM
like self inflicted scars from hunting knives lol

Just make sure you consult your local GP... they will explain how to do it without killing yourself..... another fantastic piece of legislation thought up by no brained idiots.

Alex.
25-01-07, 05:37 PM
I personally prefer piercings...as if you get bored of them, decide you don't like them, or a worse case scenerio they go wrong, you can take them out with the possibility of a tiny scar.
If I were to get a tattoo it would be somewhere I could show it of if I wanted and hide it if I wanted (my back). But the thing I'm most scared of when it comes to getting one done, is not the needle going in and out of my skin at azillion times per min, it's the thought that when I come out, I will know I've made the wrong decision. lol

Novadave - I suddenly had a thought last night while sat eating my Tuna Pasta Bake regarding jobs.

You mentioned that your employer was happy for you to have it done... which is fantastic. I was just thinking about jobs you could do where it could be covered up... all I could come up with was ski instructor (as you can wear a balaclava) and following on from that idea.... bank robber or terrorist. lol

Tattoo artist is another career path should you current job go tits up.

Why post a picture up if you didn't want peoples opinions on it? You're bound to get some people who like it and some who think you're a complete idiot. I also don't like it yet you're right it's your body you can screw it up how you see fit! :)

you can have a tat anywere as long as you are your own boss.

not my thing but i do think it looks good.

wisewood
26-01-07, 11:55 AM
If i decided to go self employed, i'd be my own boss... but i'd be doing Accountancy work still - who'd want me to do their accounts if i had a f*cking big goth tattoo on my neck lol Aside from, maybe, other f*cking big goths.

JSeymour
26-01-07, 12:04 PM
lol i wouldnt mind personally but i do see your point.

A Tattoo shop?

wisewood
26-01-07, 01:47 PM
A tattoo shop lol yeah i suppose so ... though they're hardly likely to need an accountant to do it - it wouldn't be rocket science.

Income less cash in hand less purchases less bills paid = profit lol

Each to their own and all that!

It does look good IMHO, i'm still debating where to have my next one lol

My first tat took 13 hours in two sittings (old equipment, a few years ago lol) but i'm a sick person and quite like the pain lol

Some mistakes can be covered up and you can pretend they never happened. Some can't.
