im going to keep the carb tank and lines on my sr when i put the xe in and im wondering what is the best option for fitting a fuel pump.
ive been told just to get an aftermarket on and mount it in the engine bay, then only the pipe between pump and engine is under high pressure.
Any advice? what have other people done?
buy a gte tank & pump. the fuel flow with a fuel injection motor is high, as is the pressure. if you get an efi tank & pump assy, it will fit perfectly under the rear of your car. you will need to use new fuel lines, use 8mm copper pipe from b&q. it really is a 1 hour job & the car will run properly. Also a carb type tank will let the pump suck air if you go fast round a right hand bend with less than 1/2 tank

but no one will post petrol tanks and there ant any round here.
I take it you have looked on the parts for sale link.
the 1.2 & 1.4 mpi tank assys from the mk2 novas can be made to fit, I'm not sure if the pump is ok, or if you have to source a different one.
new ones are not that much money. search 'hadrian motor panels' they list them.
I'd get a new one.
You could also use a SPi tank with a Mpi pump.

Carb Tank will be fine if you keep it over a 1/4 full.
Just use a pump and bracket off of a gte/gsi or make a cav one fit... I've always mouted them in the standard'ish area...
