Ste, I will be getting another 2.0 16v engine as soon as I can find one, could you tell me anything to look out for on the engine, any common faults or anything that I should check. Obviously, I wont be buying an engine unless I hear it running first, but I'm not a mechanic or anything, so I dont know how an engine should sound if it is on a bench or something!!!!

cheers

John

Nice car, what's the retail on that?

one common fault is the cambelt idler wheel can shatter or sheer off its retaining bolt!! but you cant tell till it goes BANG unless you change it when you get the engine

I don't any special valver tricks but take a plug spanner and have a look at all the plugs - should be khaki coloured. Beware oil black plugs. Look for excessive oil/water leaks between the block and the head. Service history of oil changes would help
