Finally got round to changing the engine in my SR this weekend, bought a 14nv out of a 91' Nova Luxe with 78k and old m.o.t's to back this up:)
Got it started today and it runs like a new one:thumb:
Few glitches along the way thoughlol ,the engine had been out in the rain for a day with the box off so when i got the car started the clutch was sticking, had to jack it up start it in gear and snatch the clutch a few times to free it...
Fuel pump was a bit weak so i swapped it for the one off the old engine that one proved much better.
Discovered while i was under the car that the previous owner had had a new rack fitted and it's got about twice as much right hand lock as it has left hand:tard: the n/s wheel rubs the tie bar and the o/s the bottom arm/body:wtf: a job for later in the week i think.
Got a few things to to do to it before i use it like pad the roll cage(banged my head twice today on it:mad: )
skid the exhaust because its the only thing left to catch underneath
Swap the wheels for some sexy lol 14" Astra 8 spoke alloys i've got for it(hope these clear Astra 16v calipers because ive bought two sets)
I'll be glad to get some use out of it as it's been taxed and m.o.t'd since october, rattled the engine the day i t+t'd it:cry:
Got a rally i want to do in march just need to get some miles done in it to make sure its reliable and iron out any problems, should be fun:thumb:

The sump guard was a c*nt to refit by myself as it's so heavy, did the engine swap under my dads car port, wasn't really an ideal weekend for it weather wise:roll:
I've been thinking about skidding the entire floor of it in 2mm steel plate as i was looking at a mk2 golf that had had this done and it had saved a lot of damage, also thinking of using mudflap material from the sump guard to th inner wings to try and limit the amount of water getting near the carb when going through fords
Hoping for some snow soon so i can go for a play:D

haha the snow wont be long, shame my nova is still in the garage :( got a bloody escort to play with :S
the guard on my nova runs from the front all the way to the back seats, but i made it myself, still its pretty strong took me ages to cut it to fit, even with the angle grinder lol

Didnt centre the rack before altering/playing with the tracking. So it was actually steering left with the wheels pointed straight ahead.

Some muppets have worked on the car in the past,it was a victim of the worst respray ive ever seen:eek: did run a 320 disc over it and respray it but i was pushed for time so wasnt that fussy, just wanted it free of runs,i'll tidy it up again and may spray it yellow as i've got lots left over from another job;)
Going to plate the inner wings and strut tops to give them a bit of extra strength.
Took it out for a bit of a blast tonight and it pulls well, brakes are superb(Astra GTE 16v calipers with Ferodo DS3000 pads:thumb: )standard drums on the back but she's a 3 click jobby;) ,only thing that lets it down is the standard suspension it's dire, dont want to go any lower as it'll bottom out on some of the lanes we use so i'm on the look out for some 2nd hand gravel suspension Bilstein preferably if anyone has got any???
Got a few jobs to do on it tomorrow: sort the steering, fit a pair of Hella Luminator spots on it,change the wheels and fit some new wiper blades so i can see where i'm going!.
I'll take some pics when and get them posted on here,i've got to take some of my GSi for people aswell, could do with 36 hour days really!lol
