End of an era :-(

Well after 4 years of sterling service my missus grey SR has finally bitten the dust. Still runs fine etc etc but jacked it up yesterday to change the exhaust and was just having a good old check underneath and noticed that one of the spring mounts on the chassis has completely rotted through :cry:
End of the line I think. Dont think it can be welded can it??
Had to replace it really quick as we both need a car for work etc so after 2 hours of searching for something in the 1-200 quid mark with t+t I managed to pick up a Fiat Brava N reg for 170 quid lol. Its a right piece of s**t lol
Been to look at an Astra Coupe 2.2 SE2 today, hopefully going to try and get it this week.

Always a disappointment when you have a nasty suprise while poking around.
Would be nice to keep it on the road but obviously if it'll just cost too much money to repair then you need to cut your losses... if that particular part is rotten are there any more suprises to be found?

well, its recently had both rear chassis legs re welded so they are solid. It needs 2 arches as they are pretty shot, a sill, rear panel (although its not too bad), 2 doors, 2 wings (which I have), boot lid (which I have) and now this spring mount welding, we do so want to keep it going as its like part of the family but I dont know if its really worth it tbh. In an ideal world I would keep it and rebuild it over a couple of years or whatever. I'll probably keep it if I can get my 2nd garage emptied within the next few weeks and then see what can be done as we dont really have the cash to fix it at the moment. it would be a shame to see another mk1 bite the dust!

My SR is similar to that, same colour too I think (or maybe lighter). I saved her from being scrapped as the owner didn't know how to sort out the head gasket.
We've got to keep the grey SR's going!

Oh the problems with owning rust, sorry Nova's, seriously though mate get it welded, but I would have a good look around the whole car, see what else needs to be welded/repaired, then make up your mind.

I think this may be the meet I've been trying to find pictures of.
If it is the one I hope it is then it has a red 1.4 SR with the previous owner (had a wide mouth bumper) and also one of my mates' D reg blue Nova next to it.
Any idea if that's the same meet?

Ooh close, that's the blue Nova, but not the red SR. I'm trying to find pics of it in its previous state, as I've got it now as an ongoing project.

you have surely got to try and fix that what a car theres not many sr's left id have every sr nova if i could (only mk1's) lol if you dont try fix it at least sell it to someone who will put it back on the road it makes me sick seeing good novas go to the scrappy

The thing is when you itemise what it needs it wil become rather expensive:
Spring mount welding
2 arches
1 sill
2 wings
2 doors
bootlid
new engine (the one in it has done 160k and goes through a lot of oil)
front end needs sorting out as the headlights arent level.

another problem is that I have no space at the moment, realistically I can keep it for about 3-4 weeks and see if I have space then. 6 cars at the moment!

Id also rather scrap it than see someone else driving it as its like part of the family etc

More SR's about than there are GTE/GSi's IMO.... not forgetting the bog std white SR on autotrader at the moment - for ?1500! lol
