Saw a Nova being towed away by the scrap man the other week and it looked pretty tidy. At the time I thought the other side of it must have crash damage or something, so didn't think to much of it. Anyway, went to the scrapyard yesterday, found the nova, had a good look round and....the only thing I could see wrong was a dented lower front panel, rear arches were near as damnit mint and worst of all it had only 44,000miles on it
lol tell me about it there are a load round here totally mint in the scrap yards , but with damaged ignition barrels , so insurance have written them off
makes me mad lol

ive had a hand in destroying a sub 40000 mile nova, well i didnt destroy it but shal be cutting it up.
Now you know how cav turbo owners feel lmfao. Nova shells are worth nothing so its better to just scrap them, sad but true.
Lots of good roadworthy cars going for grasstrack/rookie rod cars too, i personally know of a nice, mot'd c20xe converted nova ripped to pieces for the shell!
there was a near minter in our local scrappers yesterday aswell, boot floor was solid, battery tray mint, even the doors were ok - only prob was 1 rear arch had gona and had a bad repair
Now you know how cav turbo owners feel lmfao.
ive often wondered how ther can be any cav/calibra turbo's on the road with the amount of c20let nova's and astra'a around?? lol

i have scrapped 2 novas now, both rotten i must say but i feel terrible when they go. wish someone that loves novas near me would take it away and attempt to fix them. i hate them going to waste.
over here in ireland novas even standard are gone very rare, its a joke, even in scrapyards theres none anymore, its a disgrace good shells being scraped, why dont ye buy a sheel when you see a good 1. i know this sounds silly but there will become a day when even in the uk they will become rare and mite be therefor worth a few quid?? maybe not
son to be another "good" shell off to a scrap yard (in bits so the feckers cant make money from it) if someone dosent buy it before i move lol

Just think how many less Nova's you see on the road today than say 5 years ago,how many are going to be left in another 5 years time?,trouble is the 2nd hand parts start to dry up and those breaking them will want the earth for bits:(
I can think of loads of cars that were popular 10 years ago that you hardly ever see anymore for example whens the last time you seen a mk2 Cavalier?,i dont think i've seen one on the road for at least 2 years and that was a tidy SRi130 base models must be almost all gone now...
Its got to the stage now with stricter m.o.t's the cost of 2nd hand cars coming down(compare what you can buy for a grand now with what a grand bought you 5 years ago!)that only older cars with cult followings like : Nova's,Mini's, mk1/2 Escorts,Golf's e.t.c will survive, mainstream cars once they get to ten years old will disapear, its a shame but thats whats happening:cry:

This thread wouldnt even scratch the surface of how many good Novas have been scrapped or raided for bits.
at the end of the day, the one you saw Oli was probably an MOT failure & in the eyes of the owner not worth spending another penny on.
One mans waste is another mans treasure etc.
lol yeah ive scraped some good condition shells in the past as i have had the bits of them and no one wanted the shell , even for free lol
if i had a massive unit id store them but i dont so oh well

same as!
I saw a minter on a flat bed a while back, I thought whoa look at that, being scrapped no doubt. Later on that afternoon it was ontop the pile at the crushers yard.
once it goes to a crushers or metal merchants cars are not allowed out.

Agreed, everyone whining about how good shells get wasted but no one ever wants a good shell when you need rid and for that people shouldnt moan lol

co-insidense (dont know how to spell lol)
I have scrapped 3 novas over the years
1. was a write-off
2. I bought as a runabout & it was such a sack of pooh that I broke it for spares & made ?200 profit
3. I'd run her for 8 years & the tin worm finally won, but I removed everything except the shell & doors and stuck it all in my shed.

My Luxe+ that I'm sending to the scrappers next weekend.. I always thought it was solid save for some surface rust in the rear quarters & flaky doors.
Not so!
After attacking her with a hammer there are massive holes in the doors, sill edges, quarter panels & floor. The fr chassis legs developed large holes after the crash last summer but funniest of all was the massive patches of filler from the rear quarters. A peice larger than an A4 peice of paper fell off with one side coated in a silky coat of Satin Red. Quite amusing.
I'll get pics of it when it gets lifted away.
