hey i need everyones veiw on this little project of mine, i can get hold of a cheap 1. sri corsa 8v head and was looking it into port oplish and gas flowing the head and fitting high lift cams and putting it on my 1.6 nova gsi cylinder block. would this work and give any advantages?

why don't you just get the gsi one ported, polished and gas flowed with bigger valves and a 285 cam kit?

the sri head is basically the same as the gsi's I think??? my 1.8 head is exactly the same as the 2.0 head (thats 18SE and C20NE before anyone asks)

It sends compression up too much on a 1.6 block.

Keep with the 1.6 head.

tryd it and it caused me problems, too much compression stick with the 1.6 head

measure the compression ratio like stuart mentions in his how to guide, work out the ratio you want then get the head skimmed, 30-60 thou should do it but measure and work it out exactly before you go ahead.... higher compressions better anyway, more power (providing you can sort fueling, ignition and cooling properly) otherwise you'll just mangle a piston or four

ok so you think if i send it to a machine shop and get 30-60 thou off it will drop the conpression ratio, or keep it the same with high compression and sort out higher fueling and cooling?

if you skim it it will make the compression ratio even higher

You can't drop the compression ratio.

Not without changing pistons, or bodging two headgaskets on.

just a bit of advise if in any case with head gaskets there are little notches on the side the amount of notches corrospond to how thick the gasket is, so if the compression is a little to high get a gasket with another notch
