well i just wan to make it look a little bit better so what can i put over it?
opel badge or something? sticker? what you all think?
obviously dont want it to look tacky but want it to look better, and i dont want to replace the dash.
any ideas appreciated lew
personally id replace the dash, anythink you stick over it will look tacky imo
can you remove that panel? maybe remove that and the bit with the heaters and controlls in it, smooth out that little square with a bit of filler and then spray it silver or black or something???
could look quite good I think :)
Could you try and bend it back in from behind?
Whats that for anyway?
can you remove that panel?
No, it's part of the main dash..unfortunately

You dont want to replace the dash!!
gotta be a wee sticker/badge then.
Whatever you put there, some bored passenger is going to want to peel it off.
would still have all the paint work shewed up even if it was bent back... replacement panel or a quick filler and respray job on it would be best i thnk
i guess the previous owner wanted to know what it was for too!
i dont realy want to replace the dash as i will be selling the car i think when mines done.
might look into seeing if i can get a brown spray the same colour, then just fill it and spray it, if it goes tits up i spose i could just replace the dash with another brown one but a mint one.
you recon i could find a good match colour wise? what would it be like to spray? loads of sanding down?

PMSL lol
tbh you wouldnt be able to hide it, if you tried to cover it and spray it, it would stand out as the rest of the dash wouldnt be smooth
you could easilly hide it with a bit of filler! the thing does nothing and it smooth along the rest of the dash so who would know?!
as for getting a colour match I think it'd be quite difficult hense why I said to paint it black or silver and even if you do find the correct paint it won't fit in ether as the rest of the paints been sat there for like 20 years and you go and put some fresh new paint on it'll stand out a mile!
for all the fannying about trying to hide it just swap the dash !!
but then you spend hours fannying about trying to remove the dash!
was a right old pain in the ass on my old astra!
but this isnt an astra lol
true, but its bound to be just as awkward!

Some models had a dimmer switch there for the dash (dials) lights.

Rich i thought it was for the stereo balance/fader? i've got a brown mk 1 dash up the loft with an actual switch in it, it's got a fair few connections on the back.
Lew i'd replace the dash, not hard in a mk 1,, a mornings work at most, and i reckon fitting a mk2 dash would loose its originality.:)

llso didnt know it was there for a reason, i assumed it was some form of moulding stamp or summat
I'll have to dig it out and add some pics, see what we think........
Yeah thats right its for the stereo, it was a while a go when i had one, could only remember that it was a kind of dimmer (style) switch ... oh well, cant be right all the time !! lol
