Might pay to borrow a multi meter and just see which is the live and which is the earth, I think thats all that will be coming out of the car to attach to the stereo (it was with my 88 1.2 with Blaupunkt tape player.). Does this car have 4 speakers or just two? The brown and red wiring looks like speaker wiring as theres 4 pairs of them. The brown wire (in front of the left hand side of the stereo recess looks like it could be and earth and the green is either your live (or ignition if the live is elsewhere).

This is my wiring, except my car has a black wire for earth and a red for live. I've chomped off the stereo harness and connected the ignition (red) to the live (yellow), before it meets up with the cars live, there will probably be provision for this on any stereos harness. The bundle of wires on the right are the speakers, in your case you'd have to power up the stereo then find each speaker before bullet connecting. The reason I've cut the harness is because there was not enough room for the stereo, harness and the chopped adapter in the Mk 1 dash.

Tell me those wires weren't dangling behind the dash bare? :wtf:

Go hardcore and put your own loom in. All you need is power, earth, and two wires for each speaker. RCA and accessory cable if you have an amp.

You will either have to wire in a Plug connector.
Or do as Jack says and just do it wire to wire.

It looks like you've had a few lives dangling about, Lol, good job bare metals painted behind the dash.

Have you got a manual for the stereo thats going in there? That should have a diagram for the HU wiring. Can then advise what wiring you need to attach to it. Failing that, do you have a model number - most manufacturers host their manuals online.

The original wiring thats already in there, ideally you should remove it if you're not going to use it. If you can't be bothered with the hassle of that, tape up each of the loose wires individually with some insulating tape, the tape all of them up together and zip tie them to the rest of the loom to get them up out the way.

Why make your own loom when its easier to work out the wires that are there?
