Rate, are R1s the best bike to get a set of carbs from?
Seen some on GSXR etc iirc.

And when fitting to a car engine(1400 8v in this case) can you get different size jets etc? Or are you stuck with the type that the carbs have which would need modifying to run a car engine....?

Do they run a venturi choke setup like webers etc? or is that fixed at i think 42mm on R1 carbs?

How have people managed the throttle linkage? One carb can run all four carbs,somehow...

Any info? :)

they dont ahve weber style venturis as they are like an glorified SU carb that has something like a varaible venturi.

Not sure on jets, but pm saloooooooooony

the cable should make all 4 turn.... you dont see 4 throttle cables on bikes do you lol

What cc engines are R1 bikes?

42mm carbs are sounding rather large for a 1400 car engine.

it would be a few months down the line tho!

altho it is a good point lol

the R1 is 988cc lol

the CC is largely irrelevant....

Its the power that they make that is, as that consumes a particular ammount of air which consumes a related ammount of fuel.

plus with a GOOD PROPER setup the 42mmness shouldnt b e ahuge problem bar making it a little peaky lol, but due to the way the carbs work they should have awesome low speed driveability.

jets can just be drilled out, most 600cc bikes have 36mm carbs, so anything above that size would be usable imo.

altho it is a good point lol Well i've never actually seen a R1 close up so how would i know :p

Fook me, 150bhp from a 1L lol
5valves per cylinder helps tho.

In a old tv mag, theres someone with a 1300 on R1 42mm carbs.
So they must run ok even on a 1300/1400

So any opinions on whether i should find a set of 400/600cc carbs?
Or 1000cc R1 or GSXR carbs?..

Theres a good bike breakers a few miles from me, he should have some in for sale :)

email bogg brothers, they're the boys. they'll advise you on what to go for.

Best to go to the breakers and see what the have, measure the bore size and see what there is. R1's may be thin on the ground as everyone seems to want them. There will be simmilar Mikuni's with different bore sizes. They will run a XE so you may be better off with smaller size eg 36 or 38. See if they have got flat slides they are meant to be better than the CV carbs.

I can't seem to find BBs email address on there site.

Just read on mig that they did a ****e job on someones engine, left the std injection dizzy setup etc(no advance), and he had to take it a bike place after to get new jets, stop the engine running so lean.

Gary-Ye, smaller GSXR engines are around the 36/38 mark, as mikey said.
Will ring the bike place in a bit asking if they have any sets of carbs in, and getting the air filter off the bike might be handy too.

Might also be worth giving local metal engineering places a call, i'd bet if they can make up a alloy inlet they'd probably charge a lot less than bogg bros, with them being less "in the know"
