Nah, you're right, don't bother registering it with the DVLA.

Have you got any pics of the car btw? Ones with the numberplate in. And roughly what region do you live in?

the local police must be pretty stupid if they cant tell the difference between 45bhp na and 200bhp of turbo power!

my advice is dont get cought, cos there crush your car and your no dout receive points on your licence.
having said that itl be cheaper then the insurance with the turbo!

Take heed from another thread recently posted about the lad in a nova that was registered as a 1.3 but was a tuned 1.8, he killed 3 people and has shattered hundreds of lives by doing that not to mention the fact that he will be bum ****ed for at least the next 5 years because of it!

Dont be a knob and get it registered

find that hard to believe really, unless he was with the only company thta allows rollcages to start with. Mine were fine with everything on mine until i got the rollcage, she just went ummmm put me on hold for about 40 mins, then tld me she had cancelled it and found someone else to go with lol nice

who are you insured with btw phil?

craig green
11-01-07, 08:39 PM
Insurance companies assume that with a roll cage you may drive with the misconception that you think you are invincible.

It depends on the circumstances tbh. If you are a few years beyond 17 & you declare the mods as fitted by yourself, quite often the premium will barely change. I paid an extra ?5 for cover of the 15"s on my TD. That was with elephant.co.uk who arent known for policies for modded cars.

As for the MOT dodging, I'm not sure anyone would pass off a twin-cam LET as a 1.2. However I do think a lot of the times you see such cars for sale, its probably because the MOT is looming.

btw Its a shame everyone had to shoot the thread starter down in flames for merely asking a question which wasnt 'how do I dodge the insurance'? but rather 'how do people get away with dodging the MOT'?

bump
11-01-07, 08:41 PM
Only insurance companies can think that a device that would aid you in the event of an accident could put you at higher risk.

I may phone my insurance company and ask if they'd charge more for airbags or pre-tensioners. After all I got a better qupte on a 49 ton death machine that the nova.

That was the tank wasn't it? lol

Philsutton

What you got a quote on a tank? I want one of them to go to tesco, no one will tell me to move out of the 5 disabled park bays then will they.

Iain
11-01-07, 08:45 PM
when iainel was at mine the other day he was telling me when he got quoted for a roll cage they didnt alter his premium ??

Go to HIC website, www.hertsinsurance.com, and try and get an on-line quote declaring everything apart from your rollcage, then modify the quote to include the rollcage and look at the quote again. That's what I did and the premium did not change. :D

I managed to add bigger brakes, replacement seats, alloy wheels, lowered suspension, etc and it did not change my premium. :) Will try it again and post in Insurance forum if successful ;)

11-01-07, 08:46 PM
It was the comment about the "broken bonnet catch officer" that made us realise it was really about insurance and also if it was only for the MOT why would it matter as the MOT makes no difference at all.

Ian
11-01-07, 08:46 PM

HIC should cover you, assuming you're over 19? Have a quick look in the insurance forum, there's a couple of threads about them now. They'll also give you an online quote.

Yep tanksforsale.co.uk (http://www.tanksforsale.co.uk) is the one to go for.
Don't forget no tax, MOT is minimal, it can't be clamped or towed. They run on petrol, diesel, alcohol, parrafin, cooking oil, or a mixture of any of the above.
fuel from the AA at 15p per gallon.

Plus no chav can nick it unless they come armed with gas axes these days.

People on here don't usually forge their MOTs for cars they've spent time and money converting!!

The simple answer is you can't, get it changed with DVLA and save the hassle of losing your car, or worse!!!

If you've been stopped by the Police and they ask about the engine, you'd have to tell them you've not had the log book changed yet, and see what they say! but it's the people who DON'T change the engine size on log books that aren't liked, nothing personal against you!!!

Can you get a Haynes manual for the aforementioned tanks?

Should have thought so, as there is a Haynes for the most complex thing ever.....women!

Failing that get to know an ex-army tank mechanic.

Just cos its not been changed on the log book doesnt mean its not insured correctly.
Like if you convert a nova gsi to a 2.0 i dont actually see the point changing it over cos your already paying the correct tax price.
