Looks like you drill in to the door  You're braver than me if you do that to a mint Nova door lol
yes, you have to drill in youre door, and make some plates to cover the original mirror place.
Ask K Robinson he made someplates iirc for his old green nova..
that blue nova is stunning, looks like hes cut the rim off the rim and turned it round to create the deep dish effect ???
and i love the mirrors stu, might try and get a set
i think most people just make a base plate for where the standard mirror goes then just fix the manta mirror to that. seen most of them made in carbon, but would of thought you could do it fairly easy with fibreglass????

the wheels are stock steel wheels from a astra mk2 GT. (kadett overhere) widend to 8J. very populair overhere, most wheel repair shops here can widen steel wheels. don't now if its like that in the UK..
they look like nova SR steel wheels aswell
as for widening the wheels the only way i know of is the way i said, by cutting the rim off and welding it on back to front - saw it done on a escort in a mag a few years ago, i think
isn't that a 13"? my nova got a stock spare wheel like that, but that's a 13"
and that won't fit over my C20XE brakes.
strange that welding steel wheels isn't known in the UK, ist just a piece of metal welded on the original wheel.
IIRC (from reading a Retro cars or Classic F*rd mag) I think banding of the wheels (adding metal to an existing rim) is illegal, although you can cut the centre out and weld it to a wider rim. This has been done to a bobtailed range rover featured in PPC a few months ago (last summer/autumn), using JCB dumper truck rims and RR centres in order to use dumper truck tyres.
Sorry to hi-jack the mirror thread!

i'm dutch, here its not a problem, aslong the wheels don't stick out more than 3 cm left and 3 cm right. it's a wider lip welded on the existing wheel. (only goes on steel wheels)
but let's get back on-topic ;)
Banding is illegal
Back to topic please,
im not drilling the door, ive seen them mounted in origional places but how??
can't help you with that, all the nova's ive seen, put them on the doors. (that's where the are on the manta's aswell)
i can contact the guy who build the blue nova, and ask him for the exact mounting position on the door if you want.
Will they not fit into the space where the mirrors go on a plastic (Plasticard) plate?
if you want m on the original mirror place, just make a little plate, and fix m on
Ah ha, just found this pic whilst browsing MIG forums, is this what you want to do? :)

All you'd need to do is make a shaped plate to cover where the origional mirror was then drill 2 holes (under the cover) for the 2 screws on the mirror to go thru the cover plate then into the door ?
Thats just a rough guess from the pics i've seen !
