View Full Version : Feckin Norton Antivirus!
Anyone been having problems with their Norton antivirus software recently - in particular liveupdate?
I've got norton 2005 internet security and although its slower than a feckin snail its okay - when I boot my pv up it used to download the latest virus definations but since 13/12/2006 its stopped doing it.
Ive checked the settings and theyre fine and my internet connections havent changed.
When I try and open liveupdate it starts to connect and the bar gets about 20% up the way and then it hangs and you cant shut the fecker off! need to CTRL ALT delete which I hate doing. Once you do this you cant re run it till you turn it off.
Tried to contact their tech support and their options dont work so have had to go through the hastle of downloading the latest definations from their feckin website!
Anyone know how I can get round this - or better still recommend a really good antivirus software package?
No problems here,
I never installed it. Ade do yourself a favour and AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free) your machine.

I'm getting reminders to renew my Norton (12 days).
Anyone suggest anything better. Whats AVG btw? CBA'd to look now.
It's free antivirus, out performs the rest as there is no incentive to sell you next years model. It came out tops in our boredom test. Infect a machine with 500 diferent viruses and see which scanner can clean up the most.
Zonealarm, may take some setting up, but it does just sit there in the background till theres a problem, and it picks up and stops everything. Very good program.

AVG is ok but not brilliant (I use it at home). Try F-Secure internet security for an all encompassing one, they do a 3 month free trial too. https://store.f-secure.com/cgi-bin/dlreg/ml=EN?ID=FSISTB

Ade... it may have stopped updating because your subscription has run out.
I didn't realise NAV has caused so many issues for so many people... it might explain why my dads 2meg broadband is as slow as my 56k dial up.

The best thing you can do with Norton is go to your local fuel serving station. Buy 2 quids worth of unleaded and a box of matches. I'll let your imagination work out the rest... ;)
It was soooo bad on my laptop that it messed up the os and I couldn't even get windows back up. Took it to our IT dept in work and they slaved the HD to get my data off. Did a format c:, installed AVG and never had any problems since. My IT guy said its something to do with the way Norton scans everything the computer does - clogs up the whole system. Made my broadband seem like it was running on yoghurt pots and string.
AVG and windows defender is all you really need - I've found zonealarm to be a bit processor hungry too. The only thing is AVG is shortly not going to be free anymore.... Sophos is what we use in work.

AVG is still free, but version 7 is being pulled, you need to download 7.5 :).
