Ive got a 1400 SR atm and was thinking bout trying to get another 1400 engine and add few bits and bobs then when im happy swap them, was wondering what i could "bolt" on, Lightened Flywheel, Cam, Weber 32/34 (NO TWINS 40s, aint got shares in BP) and porting and polishing, 1. Where could i get the neccesary bits from? 2. How worth doing is it? 3. Any other ideas of bits i could use?
All your help would be great ;)

If you want a quick 1.4 i would say do it but if your waiting to get a bigger engine i wouldnt, id just save up your money. But what you wanna do sounds good and should all bolt on, the single webber carb might need some more bits and bobs and tuning to get it just right?? but i am not sure. A pair of webbers would go great on your 1.4 (do it:thumb:) i have a pair on myn and there so nice:D

For a everyday car i'd stick with a 32/34 weber.

Could fit a 1.3 head, inlet, and the weber. That should give probably an extra 8/10bhp

Why not start with a C14SE and a close ratio box?

C14SE is the multipoint injection engine found in the nova SRI. If I remember rightly its the best of the standard 1.2-1.4 heads. I don't see it as worthwhile plowing money into a smaller engine, if you want to tune a smallblock then I'd say get a C16SE (GSI engine) and start there, if you want to stick with a 1.4 then do what I said above, and maybe fit a better cam.

I'd go 1300 head, 1.3 inlet, weber 32/34
Something around a 280/290 deg cam.

That would make a nice everyday engine and shouldn't cost too much.
weber-?50
1300 head-?15
Inlet-?15
Cam-?50 second hand.

Thats exactly what I've got in mine, with an SRI block (C14SE). Haven't had it back on the rollers yet but with the 1300 block it gave 85bhp, so hoping for 95 this time.

Thanks for the advice, but no flywheel then, not worth it? and yeah i would put a C14SE but its even more hassle - tank, pump, etc and i really can't be bothered just want a mine to be quick til i vavler it, considering i am only 17 ;) and thanks garyc will be in contact when i get some money together!
