Leg bashing

When fitting a 2ltr engine in a nova where on the drivers side chassis leg do i need to get it cut and welded or bashed for alternator clearance? Ste said below the fuel line clip but do i go from the front of the suspension turrit to the back? or not? Please help my car goes in on monday and i need to tell the painter where to do it. Rick
