If i put a K&N bolt on filter on mi car will i need to change owt else?
Will it run right if i just swap the air filter for a K&N one?
Not bothered about getting improved performance at the moment... just wat it to sound 'ard.

no, you don't have to change anything, just remove the old air filter, clean it up with a soft clean dry cloth and bolt the new one on.

and are we sure about this?
just bolt on the new k&n and its ready to go?
nothing else needs changing and it wont run lean?
We are sure aren't we... don't wanna damage my delicate little engine more than i already have.

I have had my K7N on my car for 2 months and I have had no problems with it, I just took the old one off, cleaned it up and bolted the new one on, it only needs setting up if its an injection and a 57i kit. It should have instructions on how to fit it, it took me about 20 minutes to do it all.

the k&n 57i's are only for injection engines. I didnt think they needed tuning? if you get a k&n bolt on filter (for the carb) the mixture will be differnt therefore it will need messing about with. I'm not the best person to ask. MC...

The instructions that came with my bolt on, says to check the emissions etc and just have the mixture re-set.

It will run leaner with a K&N for one simple reason....SHIT LOADS MORE AIR!
It's no big deal...takes about 5 mins at your local garage, and it cost me a big fat zero.

The car will run fine with the K&N on without adjustment, but for the sake of maybe a tenna, just have it checked.

mine ran fine for bout 2 months, got it checked and it didn't need adjusting.

A difficult one. In theory, using a K&N instead of the original airbox will allow more airflow into the engine, and to compensate for this you will need to get more fuel in to avoid running lean. The effect will only be slight, and if you were running slightly rich in the first place you shouldnt have any problems. Best bet is to fit it, then drive to your local garage and ask em to quickly check your emmisions to see how you are running. If you are running lean, one turn of a screw will sort it, shouldnt cost more than a fiver. The sort of difference made will not cause your engine to melt a piston or anything like that, just you wont get the most out of it.

Like Cambridge said, there are lots of different filter manufacturers, and most of the cotton ones will be pretty similar, K&N, Green, JR, Jetex etc etc etc... I think people just like the name, and u can get em everywhere.

i think it is all about the name... you say "I got a K&N on it" and even people who dont know that much are impressed.
However, if you said... "Oh i got a green air filter..." people wouldn't be so impressed me thinks.

There are others besides K&N?......nah, they don't really exist...do they :-/

isnt that kinda sad then if you "HAVE" to impress people. and what if the green or jetex gave better power (like hell they do but its a point) you would still get a K&N coz it "sounds better to yer mates" coz if this modding game is about being differnet from the "crowd" then if you opne the bonnet on a row of modded novas and they all have the same filter, wouldnt some one who knew absolutely feck all think it came out of the factory like that??

again another thought :D i really should stop these deep meaningful thinks. lol

I suppose it's like buying a stereo....do you go for a name you know and trust, like Sony, Kenwood etc, or do you go for Hyindi Hoopnar (made that up lol)....just a thought.
