clutch and fly wheel c20xe

i had a knocking noise on my c2oxe thought it was my big ends replaced had pistons checked at engine rebuilders ok took cover at bottom of gearbox where fly wheel clutch is and held the clutch and moves is round about half inch and it knocked and back again sump was off and the crank only moved when it came to the end of the half inch doesnt wobble just turns any ideas??????

So you can turn the clutch / flywheel round about 1/2" but the crank doesn't move?
Crank snapped ? seen this on a mates XE a while ago, still ran but it bang'd like a f*cker !!

it runs but like you said bangs knocks woldnt it wobble side to side tho??
if it has snapped what crank will fit only the 16v or would an 8v fit

Dunno ? cant mind if my mates did or not, suppose it depends where its snapped (if at all). Did i read it right tho, can you turn the flywheel / clutch without the crank turning ?

yes bot half inch! the man at griffin vauxhall breaker said the fly wheel is loose but as i said woldnt it wobble even a little

Flywheel could be loose, best bet is to remove the clutch (you'll have to withdraw the input shaft on the gearbox) then you'll be able to see if the bolts are loose, if they are then apply some loctite on them before you tighten them back up, check Haynes manual for tourqe settings.

took clutch off today and the fly wheel wobbles took a bolt out and the hole was about 20mm long and 15 wide with big washers on it told that there shouldnt be washers on it what gearboxes fit the c20xe on the side of this 1 it says corsa 16v not sure what gear box it could be

Dodgy as f*ck !!
Sounds like its got an F15 or an F13 gearbox on it and someones bodged the flywheel to fit the XE !!
Only way to sort it properly is to fit an F20 box, flywheel (inc new bolts), clutch and conversion shafts.

been offered a fly wheel ?25 and bolts are ?1.03 each whats the difference between the 2 the f20 is going to be stronger

Your gonna have to find out what gearbox you have, it'll be stamped on the gearbox near where the linkage connects to it, if its an F13 or an F15 then your gonna have to change it along with the flywheel & clutch for an F20 gearbox, flywheel & clutch. All this will fit the engine without having to bodge it on !!
Yeah the F20 is a stronger box, its what the XE had fitted to it when it left the factory.

why wont they fit?? is it because the clutch wont bolt on to the fly wheel different hole centers the fly wheel also has 6 bolts in it instead of 8 and some one said its an 8 valve fly wheel

The XE should have an 8 bolt flywheel so yeah it sounds like you've got an 8v if its got 6 bolts, sounds like someone has filed the holes bigger so they can get it to fit, a complete bodge !!
As far as i know the 8v clutch is smaller so it won't fit on the correct 8 bolt (XE) flywheel. The ONLY way to sort it propperly (IMO) is to fit the F20 box, flywheel & clutch !!

i was also told that the holes for the clutch could be re drilled and tapped to suit would be done by a proper place

No idea mate, i've given you my oppinion so its up to you.
This is the correct flywheel for the XE, wouldn't of thought it'd be ideal re-drilling and tapping the 6 holes so you can fit a smaller clutch on tho ?!?!?!

no idea was done when i brought it was told the cam belt had snapped so i put a coscast head on and thats when i got the knocking stripped bottom end down and replaced rings shells still knockin and my last option was the gearbox so i looked at clutch and this is what i found, i payed -170 for the car 100 for head
