When i start my car in the mornin, i turn the key and the car turns over pretty slowly and then fires but i have to keep the revs up for about 20 - 30 seconds before i let go of the gas, is this tellin me that something is on its way out. i have a 1.4SR Nova.

battery going flat over night in the cold?

The name is misleading - I am not wise, or wooden.

Might just be thick oil.....when was the last oil change?

Probably the cold effecting the battery though as Wisewood says.....plus, your alternator might not be charging it back up as it should.

The holding onto the gas thing might indicate that the carbs on it's way out.
It'll have the 2E3 with auto-choke.
The auto-choke often fooks up so you have to rev it a bit to get some heat into it to keep it running. Does it start ok apart from it turning over slowly or does it take several attempts?

might be related to your previos post underneath

does sound like the awesome vauxhall auto choke. check all connections to alternator as well tho.

i think both posts are interlinked tho.

ednovasr....your Carb is definitely fooked mate!
I never had any starting probs with either of my 1.2 Novas.......they both fired up and ran ticked over fine from start up, but they did sometimes cut out at the first junction I came to. I know that both of those carbs were quite badly worn and in need of a re-build, so I'd say yours is definitely fooked!
Well....yet another excuse for that engine swap mate, going by you post above

u got newish laeds+plugs.
maybe 2-stroking if u kniow what that is.
make sure ur leads+coil+dizzy r pretty dry.

If its only firing on 2-3 cylinders becuz of damp it will sound dead rough for a bit until the 3rd/4th kicks in!

mine also turns over very slowly if it has been left overnight. i know the battery is charged when i go in a night cos the gauge says so. All i do in the morn is stick the battery charger for two minutes and it starts a treat and then runs fine (apart from carb icing). Do i need a new bat?
