View Full Version : electrical problem - R5GTT
my mates 5 has developed a bit of a problem, when he pulls up and turns the ignition off the car still runs !!! also when we stall the car to stop it the igntion lights stay on !!?? its happened ever since the clown jet washed it at the garage, i think it could be the coil shorting and keeping the feed from the perm live ?? does this sound right ??

Are you sure it doesn't have a Turbo Timer fitted?

The timer does keep the dash lights on. Effectively bypasses the ignition key when timed to run. Can cut it off by releasing the handbrake. Got a blitz one fitted to my P1.
If your ignition lights are staying on then I would say it's a problem with the ignition barrel/sender unit rather than coil related.
Hope this helps.
tha crosed my mind aswell, as well as maybe the alarm immob

Alternator might be fooked
thats first thing im gonna check in the morning, im thinking if i disconnect the alternator, fire it up, turn it off and see if it actually turns off ill know ???
SORTED !!!
managed to trace the fault to an ignition feed hanging loose behind the fusebox that had got stuck in a relay connecting a live feed to it (i hope that makes sense lol) spent 2 hours buggering about taking the dash apart, 20mins putting it all back and only had 4 screws left over !

4 screws isnt bad at all, theres always more screws / bolts in order to bolt it back together lol
