some people do it that way, then you need to relocate the oil filter, management for the fueling when on boost etc.

fwd turbo cars dont tend to make good track cars....

a PROPER 1.6 8v turbo setup would ideally be:
rebuilt bottm end with new lower compression pistons, arp rod bolts, oil squirters for piston cooling, deseamed and peened rods, whole rotating asembly balanced
Head with mild port job and any work done to the chamber to drop the CR to the required level.
tubular exuahst manifold
suitable turbo (a GT25 or something)
std inlet with fluid honing to remove casting debris
z20let injectors
decent ECU with a good mapper to sort it out
custom cam grind to sack off overlap

should easily see 200bhp minimum for the same kind of money that you'd spend at one of the "common" tuners that offer peaks of 170bhp

Just buy a Fiesta RS or Escort.

i had one, it aint worth the hassle, like craig said just buy a ford instead, but must say, me 1.6 gte turbo (hence the name) nova was alot of fun especially when your showing up the rs turbo's. But down side when somwthing goes wrong unless your gonna do it yourself, no one wants to touch em. apart from turbo specialist like regal courtenay etc.

what trouble did you have with yours mate??

well foe example, i had trouble wit the breather system, when i came off the boost there was clouds of blue smoke, no garage locally had a clue or even wanted to touch it until i found regal motor sport who re-routed the breather system and cured the problem(i still dont totally understand what they did in that)

anyway my advise is if your gonna do it understand the system prperly that way if it goes wrong, u can sort it yourself

im only think or doing this as i have a gsi kicking about. i might still give it a go on the track as it is, it will be the 1st time on the track so prob not going to need anything bigger for now any way.

but might use my 2.0 16v if i ever get it done lol

20xe would be the cheaper more instantly reliable approach... its not ahrd to get them to handle well enough to amature track use.

You will need a pretty damn good mechanical understanding to take on something like this yourself. There are books & mag features readily available.

All the hardwork & parts that could go down the pan because of ill informed guesswork isnt worth the gamble tbh.
