get a premium! the core is a waste of time imho.

most premiums are about ?280 still, but you get two games and an extra controller (usually) PCworld is good for the deals...
Xbox Live is a really good thing too, can download demos, film trailers etc. V funky.

Also heard blockbusters has a good deal on with them, they are ?170 - thats for the core and one game. but im pretty sure you can buy the harddrive and upgrade it to a premium model for not that much cash.

I'm with Stu on this one, dont bother with the core. it will end up costing you a whole lot more to upgrade to a premium later if you want to(wireless controller, hard drive, hdtv cable)

They can both be used on the net, the premium basically comes with a wireless controller(instead of the wired one), a hdd(essential if you want to download demos, extra bits for games etc) and the advanced AV cable(allows hdtv connections via component and also has an optical output)

the core comes with a wired controller and a memory card and basic AV lead. To upgrade would cost you around another ?120 or so for the extra bits, so it's worth buying the premium if you can.

My bro got an XBox 360 for xmas from play.com

Was the premium console with the HDD, wireless controller, HD AV cables, network cables, live headset and included in the box was gears of war. Then they added an extra wireless controller, PGR 3 and an Arcade bundle CD with 10 arcade games to the bundle all for 300 quid inc delivery.

Best i've seen around for that price

see, now call me old and miserable or whatever, but i had a dabble on one of these yesterday for a good while with some racing game. Personally i didnt find anything that would justify me selling my ps2 to rush out and get one.

Now i know some of you are totally biased as you have bought one and feel the need to justify it, but i'm not going to rush out and get a hd ready tv just for a games console, so with that out of the frame can someone explain what the massive difference is with the standard of the gameplay etc (i dont want to know about nonsense internet and that crap)

(and just as a final side note, i'm presumingthe comments regarding the ps3 are from people that have actually used and compared them, or are you just going by poor screen shots and media hype?)

the 360 feels a better machine than the old xbox, but i feel the game selection is a bit pants.... I like racing games but PGR3 is crap, and there isnt another proper "racing only" game out till feb.
the shooter games are impressive to say the least but not massively my cup of tea.

the grpahics are amazing but then ive not plugged it into a normal tv lol.
Its also handy as a media steamer if your in for that kind of thing.

but i'm not going to rush out and get a hd ready tv just for a games console,

TV needed replacing so it was a natural progression to get a 360 after the hd ready 32" lcd.

Not to start the old arguement all over again but the PS3 is massively over priced. The graphics on the xbox 360 are a massive improvement over the old xbox which is better than the ps2 anyway.

Plus i love my shooters...

so basically with me not being interested in all the media nonsense that surrounds them, for a basic console to play games on, the ps2 still has a far greater games support and on a normal tv the graphics are not a real issue so again its not worth selling up.

It depends what you want from your gaming.

I wouldnt bother with a 360 unless you have a good quality tv.
Would be better to spend that money getting a new tv first.

as with the xbox the games companies will stop bringing games out on the PS2 once the 3 is released....

swings and roundabouts really. The only real reason id buy a PS3 is if the blu-Ray player is any good as its half the cost of a dedicated one at the moment.
