Yes all will have an emissions test. Though as they are carb then the CAT test will not apply, as a result the test is much less stringent.

All engines get emission tested.

It depends on its age as to how strict the test is...

the age of the car, not the engine

Car or engine.

My last Nova was a 92' SRI fitted with a 89' SR engine. It had a straight through stainless exhaust and it passed cat tests with no cat fitted.

Or if you know the MOT tester you can get a snide one

My decatted tuned up DC5 failed by miles

Should be 0.01% IIRC but mine was near 4%!!!

on 1992 cars it is the changover year for cats, MOT tester can choose whether he thinks it should have a cat or not....

for cars before 1992 the max emmisions are 1200ppm and 3%CO IIRC

Shaun, your's shouldn't have had a CAT test as the engine was from 1989.

If the car is registered after 1st August 1992, it requires a CAT test (i.e. ALL K-reg cars), unless it has an older engine fitted with proof of age. The tester shouldn't have a say in it as the MOT computer will tell him what test to perform.

How do you obtain proof of the age of the engine?

Letter from manufacturer, V5 from the donor car, or some document to tie the engine number to the original car.
