View Full Version : Bike carbs v Webers
It seems like bike carbs are the latest fad, but has anyone seen any back to back dyno plots of a properlt set up of webers v properly set up bike carbs? If so are there any on the net to view?? or would you like to post them up here if you have any?

havnt seen anything to prove but i have heard bike carbs are miles better. They rev quicker/more responsive! Been told by a few people bike carbs are the best now.

I still like the sound of webbers the look of webbers and the old skoolness of webbers. But bike carbs are the way forward from what i have heard they are a bit more responsive and more relaible. But you will get the argument that a well set up pair of webbers is just the same??? personall preference says it all:thumb:

bike carbs wen set up properly give better mpg
i've heard they're both bout the same but bike carbs r loads cheaper to buy! plus bike carbs do look really cool!
No benefit in bike carbs imo.
Cost is same as webers after having to have a filter plate, inlet etc custom made.
Bike carbs are harder to tune IIRC?
t40s for me..
Good answers so far, but anyone got any evidence????
Doubt you'll find evidence tbh.
The engines would have to be identical mileage/condition, same mods, and RR'd on the same day, same temperature, same rolling road etc.
no hard evidence bar prehaps getting a comparrison of a SU carbed engine and a T40'd equiv. as the bike carbs operate on a similar principle to the SU's

I get the idea that this thread might turn into a bit of argument/discussion monsterlol its one of them ''this debate will never end'' threads
well I reckon back to back test ie same car differnent carbs would settle it, thats why I asked the question. I havent seen any of the claims backed up thats all.
In some ford mag I picked up a while ago they did a back to back test between 40's and the standard twin choke which made quite interesting reading.

What was the result?
If I can find the article I'll post up the results!
obv the 40's were up on the std carb. I guess its kinda simmilar to the 1.3SR and sport.
id imagine on a reasonable setup the twin choke would offer a more "driveable" experience, but the power wouild be in the T40's favour (obv)

Well i like um and i sticking with what i got. R1's that is.
i've been kicking this thought about, i all ready had T40's and manifold to go on, but i kept hearing about bike carbs. So i thought i'd go for them and sell the T40's. and now im keeping T40's this is because i belive they will work better on an 8v, delivering more torque though out the rev range, where as R1 carbs i recon would be better for a revvy engine and peak power high up. i mean think, the bike they came off, the had to deliver fuel to 14k rpm engine. Also if vauxhall used T40's then there good enough for me (not that they have R1 carbs back then) But all in all theres not a lot of differant between the two. Search on here and mig for more info.

I've just found it. on the 2 litre pinto it picked up a total of 28 BHP with 45's compared to DGAV which was on there as st. it also picked up 16ft/lb torque too. as you would expect the biggest gains were above 4000 rpm.
nova_pilot I reckon you have that the wrong way around, you need to look down the barrel of a 40 and a R1 carb to see how they work differently.
This Reminds me of the Big Block vs Small Block, debate lol or Mk1 vs Mk2 dash etc lmao...
Choose which ever you like, i agree with LLTN the engines would need to be near identical for a "proper" reasults

Im just going on all the information i could find at the time on mig, NL and mags. But i still dont think i've understood it all yetlol
