I currently have an 89' 1.4 SR.

I hadnt driven it for about 3 weeks, then when i went to start it, it wouldnt work. It was turning over when trying to start but wouldnt make that final step and actually start.

Checked the leads etc and they are fine, altho i broke down a while ago due to a dodgy coil lead, but the coil looked kinda corroded inside. Im thinking the coil has gone. I had the coil lead end on something metal when starting the car and no spark was produced, so will this suggest i need a new coil?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers guys

Does sound like coil to me, although I had this same engine fitted to my last nova and it started playing up. Turned out to be the section of wiring that goes from the main wiring to the coil and then to the distributor. The plug that goes into the underside of the distributor, check the wires are still intact at this plug as it turns 90 degrees and the wires can get damaged.
