View Full Version : Another girly corsa

Got some more done on the corsa today, slow progress but it is getting there. Fitted a bottle warmer for the nitrous bottle in the back, and now have a pressure gauge so that I make sure the pressure it constant among other things. Also fitted the turbo an manifold on to mine for the first time, its all very tight but turns out that on my car the rad has plenty of room from the turbo, but the problems do now come from boost pipes as they are all bigger and routed slightly different, probably need soem fancy stuff making up to get it all in nicely.

Also managed to get my hands on a EVO 4 / 5 intercooler which should flow alot better than the diesel one i was using before. Just need to go an find it on ebay as the guy has put it on there now. Down pipe is all done also, just the holes for the sensors now need drilling (decided where they are going now).

Battery now lives in the spare wheel well, gives me loads more rome in the engine bay (corsas have them in the engine bay themselves) and hopefully take some weight out the front lol

Looks mint, what power figuers you hoping for?

Philsutton
17-12-06, 02:22 PM
Anything around the 400bhp mark would be very nice, should be enough to make me a member of the 11 second club. Only thing that bothers me is the weight of the damn thing, there is a hell of a lot of weight in the turbo, manifold waste gate ect.... Had to make braces up to support it all.

Adam

Get that screamer pipe coming out through the wing :thumb::cool:

Philsutton
17-12-06, 02:27 PM
you do realise there will be flames coming out of that lol? It comes out just in front of the front passager wheels in the arch so will still be visible.

Martin
17-12-06, 02:45 PM
400 nice, weres the screamer pipe?, whats the purpose of it? lol

Philsutton
17-12-06, 02:53 PM
Well the waste gate controls the boost, and thus will only allow so much air into the turbo to spin it up. When the required boost is made the rest of the air is then vented out the screamer pipe in the bottom of the arch. So its like having a big hole in the manifold.

Martin
17-12-06, 02:57 PM
Ahh i see, makes the car alot louder right? my mate has done this to his evo8 that things fastbut its too loud for me lol

Would itbe possible to fit a screamer pipe to any turbo engine? say a 1.6 8v?

Adam
17-12-06, 03:04 PM
you do realise there will be flames coming out of that lol? Yes it will get burning hot, but it'll look cool and sound insane  :thumb:

Novalicious-Its that chrome pipe coming from the bottom of the wastegate( the big thing on the top edge of the manifold)

what sort of spec do you need to get over the 300bhp mark as i'm lookin to join the c20let crew soon! internals? software etc?
and what sort of money do you need to splash to get up to those figres?

cheers ronnie

Well i had 300 or over on the set up before an all that was:

Evo 5 software,
Saab red injectors,
Xe inlet cam retarded by 8 degrees
Frontera intercooler,
Arp bolts,
And some nitrous

The bottom ends are quite good on them, an mine will remain standard on this set up. Alot of other people have got around 400bhp on the standard bottom ish.

its really that easy lol

Yes its that easy, make sure its a good engine to start with though. Also just had mine running, and it was running spot on which is a good sign. Just got to wait for braided hose an silicon in order get it back on the road.

Philsutton
27-12-06, 08:05 PM
Right then an update, although not a good one. Got it all running an decided to see if it was boosting right ect?.. It was running excellent, it felt 10 times faster than before even with nitrous and I still have another 100bhp or so to go on top of it. It was just pulling stupidly hard in all gears, but then after a few runs the dread knocking noise came from the bottom end and it started firing on 3 cylinders. Its now stripped down to a bare block and is under going a full re-build??ops. After stripping it all down we didn?t find anything wrong with it, no bent valves, no hole in the piston, nothing broken. Looks like something has made its way into the engine which we cant understand why . To cut it short the pistons are mullered up along with the head.

So while it all needs to stripped down Ive decided to sort out some other things that need doing.

- Low comp pistons
- Under piston squirters
- Uprated conrods
- A lot of head work (got to come apart anyway to fix)
- XE exhaust camshaft (already have the inlet on in)
- and the usual bottom end rebuild parts

At least I know the turbo an that works fine, in fact its better than I was expecting, and the sound it made was something else. :thumb:

unlucky phil, take it you defenitly wont be getting back on donnington then lol

Philsutton

Hi Phil,

Good progress there mate. Shame about the rebuild but at least it'll be even stronger this time!

Are you still going to be running it on the Evo 5 software for get some standalone engine management?

I lapped a 911 twice on my session last time year, only wish I had a camera to capture his face the second time went past.

Been speaking to russ the guy that does that software, thats what he was running at TOTB last year with pretty much same set up as what I now have. it seesm to cope rather well with it tbh. Think he had about 380bhp with no nitrous, but I will be having a 70-100bhp shot on top of that as well hopefully.

I will no doubt go onto stand alone management when we made a new inlet manifold for it, as thats the next restriction.

Right then heer is the state its now in. Block is all prepped, painted and machined. Its now red which makes it faster, also everything has been cleaned (must have removed about 5kg of dirt from the engine an box lol).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/philsutton/Photo-00251.jpg

The oil squirters are in now, also the oil pressure has been raised by 10psi so that they actually work.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/philsutton/Photo-00271.jpg

The picture doesnt really do my box justice as its so so so so clean

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/philsutton/Photo-00281.jpg

And the steel conrods so I dont have to worry about breaking anything.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/philsutton/Photo-00291.jpg

Just waiting on the crank, pistons and head to get back now and then it can all be built back up again. Crank should be back tomorrow hopefully.

Right its all done running and driving now. Its taken 2 full days to fit the front of it up, the intercooler I got turned out to be a bit bigger than I was expecting. Its all rather tight now on the turbo side of things and sitting to low to the floor as the sump is about 2 inch off the ground lol. Here are some pics but they were taken rather late last night. All I have to do now is get some miles on it.

Fook me, no ones going miss that intercooler,Lol.

Whats the finished engine spec now?

Philsutton
12-02-07, 07:29 PM
well the spec is much of what I meantioned before except now I am running astra vxr injectors, and the compression ratio has been calculated to 7.9:1. Once its all run it I shall have a play get it set up right on the boost front, and also have a play when the rolling road arrives.

Put some proper wheels / tyres one, Im running 195/50/15 on the front with low pressure, with a bigger profile tyre it will have moer give in it than a stretched rubber band lol.

Oh an for people that dont know what it is, its an intercooler, and was designed for a tuned evo 7-9 in mind.

Already had some very dodgy looks, and even parents moving their kids away frmo the road side of the pavement when i go past lol. Some corsa overtook me last night and his mate was staring out the window, then when he saw the front his face hit the floor lmfao. Im not out driving it now as its pissing me off, ive snapped two speedo cables in about 50 miles for no reason.

Hi Phil, glad to see you got the i/c fitted ok in the end!

(I popped into JNC a few weeks back to talk to Paul about internal gear linkages, then had a chat to you about your car, while you were trying to squeeze the rad and i/c in!)

Its looking spot on now mate - can't wait to see it going!

You going to PV?

Also, when are you getting the rollers in at JNC?

03-03-07, 10:32 PM
Nope certainly not took my time with this, thing is its my only and everyday car as well. So it still goes to tescos an back lol when it needs to. The rad an fan are very tight against the turbo an manifold but as of yet its been running quite well, in fact a bit to cool. The rolling road has now arrived and shall be getting that all fitted and moving the whole garage around this week, so all going well should be able to set it up properly and get a print out to see what its actually making with an without nitrous.
