Scrapyard. If you take out the reset button for the tripmeter then you should be able to use the lense from a poverty spec model aswell.

Poverty spec wonbt fit, unless you remove the pastic from the frame....
and thats a pain in the ass to do

Are the above two posts true for both mk1 and mk2?

mk1 and mk2 clocks are different, you will need to use a mk1 front on mk1 clocks and mk2 front on mk2 clocks

I meant can you fit poverty spec mk2 clock lense to mk2 SR/GSi clocks?

no......

the lence has a dial surround on them, which will only fit the poverty spec dials..

would need to remove the clear front off the surround, and put that on a surround for sri/gsi style dials

look at these dials....

the back bits around the dial faces are apart of the clear front, so they sound need seperating, but then you wouldn't be able to fir the ode-meter reset switch either

Can you not just remove the speedo from the binnacle & then put it into another set? Or find another set with a similar mileage?

Its A Virgin Gte, Its Only Done 56k From New Service History And Mot's To Confirm, Im So Pissed Off, The Thing Is Once It Cracked I Continued Pulling At In And Managed To Take The Entire Lense Off From The Clock.

The Lense Is Actually Separate From The Actually Clocks As Ive Now Got It Off. Im Thinking Of Taking The Lense To A Plastic Specialist If They Can Reheat It And Rectify The Crack.

Benny What Would You Be Looking At For Your Clocks? Im Guessing The Gte/gsi Clocks Are The Same As The Actally Dashboards Differ From Mk1/2.

Coz All I Really Need Is The Lense, Thing Is I Worried If I Buy Some Clock And Try Taking The Lense Off And Crack It In The Process, Comments Please?

Mate I know how you feel, exact same thing happend to my MK1 GTE clocks. They cracked and it was ugly to look at. Vaux told me the same about not servicing that part no more :( I did have a poverty spec merit dial lens which was almost mint. Taking the lens apart from that was a nightmare, kept cracking the outer edges of the lens altho not visible when fitted back.

I tried to glue it down but the glue I used had an effect on the lens and some areas went white from the glue.

Then came plan B lol

Managed to get a sheet of clear acrylic/perspex. Used the original lens as a template. Unfortunately, i didnt have a proper saw so cutting it out was long. I got it to fit but it was a tight squeeze as the lens needs some shaving down on the edges but its crystal clear.

If you are able to do the same but finish it top quality then once you bond it to the binacle cover it will make the dials look brand new :)

Careful when drilling the hole for the trip reset button.

hope this helps.

if you manage to find the part you want then let me know as I'd like to get one that fits properly :thumb:

if you unscrew the back of the dash you can take the speedo unit out, compleate with ur low miles odometer and put it in another set of gte/gsi clocks! thats wat i did wen i went from 'poverty spec' flair clocks to gsi 1s and cept the correct milage! worked fine!

Thanks for the advice dude, but Im thinking of taking it to a plastic moulding place now and try and get them to replicate it as the OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) won?t let me live with the crack Hehehe, (ive got too much time on my hands if you ask me) either way its not that much of a priority but as you?re a working example that I can get one made which has put me at ease a little. lol

Man!!! the things your faced with when running an obsolete car !!!!:(

oh so does a poverty spec and gte/gsi clocks have the trip hole in the same place, as you attempted to do, as that may be another option.

no no no
i put my 70k miles speedo unit out of my single dial 1.4 dash (speedo in centre) into a set of gsi multi-dialed clocks (speedo on left) didn't swap any of the plastics, surrounds or covers! so i had my origional 1.4 speedo face needle and oddemeter beheind the gsi clear plastic, so it would be easy to swap ur low milage speedo unit into any gse/gsi multi-dialed clocks! compendee?

Thanks dude, no i got you the 1st time, its just that i posted the second thread straight after. I got on to a breakers yard that may have some clocks available so if they aint got a GTE one (exchanging the odometers as explained by your good self) might attempt to take the front plastic lense off, that way it might save me taking the entire clocks out.:)
