My car is ghey! - its got an oil leak (nothing majour doesn't drop overnight) and smokes, white smoke and isn't mixing with the water - BUT loses about a litre of oil a week!!! im guessing its probably oil rings/stem seals/valve guide, its a 1400 SR anyone else had this problem? and how much can you pick an engine for?? got offered one for 100quid but was out of astra and from a scrappy and thought well that could be a pile of w**k. Im stuck.........dunno wether to strip her down and do rings, stem seals AND valve guides or to replace it????? any ideas? AND NO C20XEing or C20LETing!!!! just wanna stay with 1400 8v for time being!

There's no guarantee that if you swap for another 1400 that it won't consume just as much oil.
I voted strip and fix but the sensible option if you use it as a daily drive would be buy another 1400... and strip that one. It will give you some great experience as you can do it in your own time, at your own pace.

Are you sure it's the bottom end?? Does it blow blue smoke all the time, or just after it's been idling for a while, is there alot of pressure coming out of the breather pipe?
