car was running fine
car cuts out like turning ignition off
try to restart
engine spins too freely flywheel is turning as seen through clutch cover plate suspect cambelt
remove cam belt cover and belt is intact and timed up right!!
help i dunno what to do next
i don't want to try turning it over (i might cause more damage?)

Need more details ste. Why do u say it turns to easily? Don`t fear the worst coz my car started an run with a valve missing and 2 inch hole in the piston. Take out your plugs and shine a torch down into the cylinder to see if all is o.k. If so, do a compression test and then start thinking about other components. Did it rattle or bang at all when it cut out? Were you pushing it hard at the time?

Woodfuff key is a notch type thing on crankshaft that keeps the cambelt sprocket in place. Without this, the sprocket rotates on the shaft and valves are introduced to pistons.

Surely u could just change your valves and followers rather than scrap the engine? or take the oportunity to get a modified cylinder head? The 1.5 lump does sound good though, as you can get good power out of a very light engine.

sprocket was on fine i've done 20k miles since march
!!!!!!!! vauxhall want ?200 + vat for a new pully... and thats with my trade club discount!!!!!
head rebuild will cost ?300
other parts = ?100
total = ?600!!!
the engine only cost ?600
oh well

have you checked the cams m8, mine did the same and the vauxhall cam had split in 2,
but it wuold be alot chepaer than 600 to fix.
